Shannen Doherty shares update on health condition after cancer reconstruction surgery
Shannen Doherty just revealed how she’s been healing from her breast reconstruction surgery. The procedure came three weeks ago after she had a mastectomy.
The star opened up in an Instagram post this weekend. In it, she shared that she was having a hard time dealing with the effects of the recent surgery.
Shannen Doherty, 47, underwent breast cancer reconstruction surgery two years after her mastectomy, read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa. The actress spent Mother’s Day in the hospital with her mother, Rosa, by her side while she recovered from the surgery.
In March 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two years later in April 2017, she was told that she was now in remission.
The star has been in remission for one year. In her recent Instagram post, Doherty revealed that she was struggling since her surgery in mid-May.
‘My amazing Dr. Jay Orringer keeps reminding me it’s only been 3 weeks and I’m up and about, not taking any pain pills and generally doing well considering I had 3 surgical sites and 10 hours of surgery. Still… I struggle,’ the actress confessed.
She finished the update by admitting to fans the whole thing had been emotionally difficult. Doherty added that she also struggled with not being physically able to do many things she enjoyed.
The star confessed that this was another humbling moment that came with dealing with cancer. Despite this, she admitted that she was thankful for the lesson.

She acknowledged that things could’ve been much worse. ‘So yes, I’m blessed. In so many ways. #reconstruction,’ the actress concluded her message.
Her post received more than 80,000 likes from people who supported her. Many others took to responding to her Instagram message sharing their own stories and giving support.
A while back on the same social media platform, the star had mentioned that her doctor cared for her as if she was his own daughter. Besides having her doctor and mother in her corner, Doherty has also had support from her husband Kurt Iswarienko.
Earlier in the year, the former Charmed actress shared that one of her two tumor marker tests had come back elevated. She explained at the time that being elevated just meant she would get monitored and receive another test.
Doherty said she was staying positive and taking stock of her life. Being open with her battle against cancer, the star once shared an image of her shaved head after starting breast cancer treatments.
