Lela Rochon is better known for her role as Robin Stokes in the 1995 romantic drama film “Waiting to Exhale.” These days she has stepped back from the spotlight, and her teenage daughter is ready to take her place in the entertainment industry.
Asia Rochon Fuqua is the eldest child of Lela and her husband, film director Antoine Fuqua. The couple, who have been married since 1999, also has a 13-year-old son, Brando, and Fuqua has another son, Zachary, from a previous relationship.
The young lady, who’s just 15-years-old, has inherited not only the beautiful facial features from her mother but also the love from cameras, as she incurred into the modeling world a few years ago. She has walked down several catwalks already, and recently stunned in a star-studded event organized by the Ladylike Foundation.
Lela, as any proud mother would do, shared a photo on her Instagram account of her daughter looking beautiful in a pale pink dress while posing graciously in the runway and showing off her modeling skills. Rochon wrote in her caption:
“Congratulations to my baby @asiarochon Poetry in motion yesterday at the @leah_ladylike event. #proud Such a beautiful event.”
The Ladylike Foundation held its annual “Women of Excellence Scholarship Luncheon,” at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills a few days ago. The event was created to support the foundation in helping and empowering girls from underprivileged communities to reach their potential.
They do so through workshops, scholarships and mentorship sessions.
The event was also the perfect occasion to award several influential women for being an inspiration to the young ladies in the program with their unstoppable work ethic and goodwill. This year honorees’ included Angela Basset, Linda Rice, Tina Knowles Lawson, Manuela Testolini, and Adrienne Houston.
As part of the celebration, designer Liliya Dilanyan, creator of the line Isabella Couture, presented her new line in a mini fashion choice where Ladylike scholarship holders modeled alongside famous kids like P. Diddy’s twin daughters, and Lela Rochon’s daughter, Asia.
The rapper, who made a $100,000 donation, said this beautiful words to the Ladylike models and participants:
“You are beautiful, you are intelligent, you are powerful, you are strong, you are truly Black magic; anything you want to have come true, you can make it happen. You are our future.”
We’re glad Asia was there to hear such empowering words, though we’re sure her mother is making an incredible work of pushing the girl to follow her dreams.
Asia is a beautiful teenager and has a bright future ahead. We can’t wait to see more of her in the fashion industry.
