Toni Braxton's son signs with famous modelling agency after moving past autism
Diezel Braxton is the pride of her famous mom after the boy was signed to one of the most important model agencies of the country. It’s been only two years since the singer announced her son had overcome autism, and fans are still not sure what she meant.
Toni Braxton’s year has been filled with many happy occasions. She made a triumphant return to the music industry with her eighth studio album, confirmed her engagement to rapper and music producer Birdman, and now her youngest son is spreading his wings in the fashion industry.
The 15-years-old fashionista was signed to the Wilhemina Models Agency, one of the oldest and prominent agencies in the world. They have the particularity of not restraining their work to models, but they also work with celebrities, artists, athletes and content creators worldwide. People like Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Leona Lewis and Shawn Mendes are part of their roster
Toni celebrated her son’s accomplishment by posting a picture with him and Wilhemina’s CEO, Bill Wackerman, as she wrote: “Congrats Diezy @diezel.braxton on signing to Wilhelmina Modeling Agency!!!”
Diezel is the youngest of Toni’s two kids with ex-husband Keri Lewis, and he was diagnosed with autism at two-years-old. Since then, Toni has been an advocate for the disorder, and she was pretty involved with Autism Speaks, one of the biggest autism awareness organizations in the country.
However, the singer surprised, and confused, many of her fans two years ago after she stated in an interview with Access Hollywood that her son was no longer part of the spectrum.
“My youngest son— everyone knows— my son Diezel suffers from—or I should say suffered from Autism,” she explained. “I am one of the lucky parents. Early diagnosis changes everything. I will tell you this. I will shout it from the rooftops. My son Diezel is off the spectrum. Off the spectrum being autistic.”
The reason why Toni’s statement confused some fans, is the fact that autism is not a disease that can be “cured” from day to night. Autism is a mental disorder that can include intellectual disability, problems with social interactions, and repetitive behaviors, among others, which is why is classified under a spectrum.
According to Inverse, what Toni probably meant to say was that since her son started to get therapy at an early age, he has learned how to control the condition and “the behavioral therapy has reduced his symptoms to a negligible level, allowing him to function as an average human being.”
Congratulations to Diezel in such a great accomplishment in his career. We’re sure this is just the beginning for the handsome boy.
