Ty Dolla $ign reportedly arrested by police following vehicle search in Atlanta
“Blasé” rapper, TY Dolla $ign, has reportedly been arrested in Atlanta after he was found in possession of marijuana and cocaine.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that TY and six other people traveling with him were stopped by the police for a vehicle search in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Officers said they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and proceeded to search. They eventually found the substance, and some cocaine as well.
Eyewitness footage obtained by TMZ shows police officers searching the 33-year-old’s car with the help of a police dog.
The rapper, whose real name is Tyrone William Griffin Jr., was booked into the Fulton County Jail earlier today and has been charged with “possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of cocaine and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.” A first appearance hearing was scheduled for 11 am.
According to Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Stephanie Brown, the other six individuals have been released without charges.
The incident occurred yesterday around 4:55 pm, less than two hours to TY’s scheduled performance as the opening act on a national tour with G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert and YBN Nahmir. The rapper was allegedly headed to the gig at the Cellairis Amphitheatre in Lakewood when he was pulled over.
The rapper is also billed to perform on Friday night in Tampa.
Ty, who is currently in a relationship with “Fifth Harmony” singer, Lauren Jauregui, is also known for his collaboration with music heavyweights like Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna, and Drake.
In 2016, he won the MTV Video Music Award for “Best Collaboration Video.” The award was in recognition of his partnership with Fifth Harmony on “Work From Home.”
Another celebrity that recently found himself on the wrong side of the law is former Disney star, Orlando Brown who was arrested earlier this week for burglary. Brown was caught on camera changing the locks at his friend’s restaurant in Las Vegas. The 30-year-old’s story went viral partly because of his weird habit of smiling for mugshots.
