Stevie Wonder belts out 'Isn't She Lovely' while son performs on 'Dancing with the Stars Junior'
Musical genius Stevie Wonder was a proud dad as he belted out the lyrics to one of his classic songs while his son aced his “Dancing with the Stars: Junior” performance. Scroll down for the adorable video.
13-year-old Mandla Morris had the best accompaniment last week as he continued his run on the ABC dance reality series. His famous dad, Stevie Wonder, performed the 1976 hit “Isn’t She Lovely” as Mandla showed off his dancing skills with professional partner, Brightyn Brems.
Being Thanksgiving week, the show’s theme was thankfulness, and Mandla expressed gratitude for his father, whose real name is Stevland Morris. He also said his favorite song from his dad’s array of chart-toppers is “Isn’t She Lovely.”
The teenager asked Stevie to perform the song while he and Brightyn performed the steps choreographed by team mentor and “Dancing With the Stars” alum Cheryl Burke.
It was a fantastic presentation. Mandla looked dashing in his black tailcoat, and Brightyn looked utterly gorgeous in a powder-blue gown hemmed with frills. But more than their outfits, they also put on a good show with their dance routine, and the judges thought so too.
The dancing duo was scored straight 9s, for a total of 27 out of 30 points, and Judge Adam Rippon declared: “This was one of your best dances.”
Brightyn got emotional from all the praises and even told the judges how proud she was of Mandla.
Stevie wasn’t there for Mandla’s subsequent performances, but maybe he should have been because this past Sunday, the teen and his partner were eliminated from the show.
Mandla will most likely not be idle following his elimination, as the young man already has a ton of interests to keep him occupied. Although he loves music and plays the piano just like his Grammy-winning dad, Mandla is working towards becoming a successful fashion designer; his love for drawing and sketching clothes is proof.
Mandla also loves to travel and has visited international cities like Milan and Paris. Meanwhile, he did gain something out of his time at “DWTS: Juniors” -- a new friend. Mandla has been hanging out with fellow contestant Maddie Ziegler. He shared a photo with both of them on Instagram and fans are all for the friendship.
Mandla is the son of Stevie and his ex-wife, Kai Millard Morris. Stevie and Kai also have an older son, Kailand.
