The Knowles-Carter family united to honor Jay-Z's grandmother Hattie White with a special tribute.
Beyoncé Knowles joined her husband Jay-Z in a touching tribute to his family's matriarch, Hattie White, on Christmas Eve.
The news was shared on Twitter by World Music Awards, an unusual departure from the Carter/Knowles family's usual blanket over their personal lives.
“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. With Love and Admiration to our root, Hattie White.”
A SWEET TRIBUTE TO JAY-Z'S GRANDMOTHER
The family took White to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and presented her with a personalized park bench.
White, 93, is credited by both stars as a source of strength and inspiration in their personal and professional lives, and they decided to make their appreciation public.
White was photographed surrounded by her loving family, looking at the bench with her hand over her heart.
WHITE'S VOICE ON BEYONCÉ'S ALBUM
Beyoncé has attributed the inspiration for her 2016 album, Lemonade, to White. In the final moments on the song "Freedom," White's voice can be heard saying:
“I had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.”
WHITE SURROUNDED BY HER GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN
Also present at the tribute to their great-grandmother were Jay-Z and Beyonce's three children: Blue Ivy, 6 and the twins, Sir and Rumi, 1-years-old.
White was photographed surrounded by her loving family, looking at the bench with her hand over her heart. A sweet moment shared with the fans by two intensely private stars.
