The birth of Gabrielle Union’s first baby made her the happiest woman on earth, and while Gabrielle and Dwayne Wade’s little bundle of joy just turned two months old, the couple feels like the proudest parents.

They continually share all the beautiful moments with their new baby, along with their thoughts on some negative comments aimed at Gabrielle, especially right after the birth of their baby.

Because of trouble conceiving, the couple had their baby girl, Kaavia via surrogate. The road that led to them being able to hold their child was by no means easy, but worth it.

While Kaavia is Gabrielle’s first child, Dwayne is already father to three boys, Xavier, 5, Zion, 11 and Zaire, 16 and raising nephew Dahveon Morris, 17. But this is Dwayne’s first daughter, and he looks smitten.

She might be only two months old, but she already has her own Instagram account sporting over 300,000 followers and nicknamed ‘Shady Baby’ to boot.

The couple celebrated the arrival of their newborn with a tailgate-themed baby shower a week before Christmas Eve. The epic celebration got shared by many on social media and featured attractions like a puppy Pit with golden retrievers dressed in red jerseys, a photo booth, a marching band with baton twirlers, kegs and beer pong.

Christmas in Miami was exceptional for the couple this year, as they took little Kaavia out on a yacht to enjoy their first Christmas together. All dressed up in a Christmas outfit she probably stole the hearts of many too.

While still in the surrogate’s womb, the couple took steps to bond with their unborn baby. The whole family taped themselves speaking, and the surrogate would play the recording over headphones on her baby bump, so little one could get used to their voices.

But baby got to listen to a lot of music as well and “heard everything from Astroworld to Beyonce to Earth Wind and Fire, to The Whispers. And for them, it made the transition from surrogacy into the home more comfortable.

Eager to meet the world, Kaavia arrived about two weeks early, and since Dwayne was in Miami at the time, he quickly got a flight back home in time for the birth of his daughter.

After the birth of Kaavia, Gabrielle had to endure criticism from many women on social media and spoke up about the experience of finally having a child and how the negativity made them feel. During a sit down with Oprah Winfrey Dwyane elaborated:

“I think for me the most hurtful thing was once we had the baby, and everyone started talking about why is she in the bed holding the baby, why does she have a gown on, why is she acting that she just had a baby.”

Shortly after the birth of Kaavia, a picture got taken of the couple holding their newborn wearing hospital gowns. The images were not received well by some woman who expressed their displeasure at the fact that Gabrielle wore a hospital gown even though she did not give birth.

Gabriella explained that they were using a conventional method of connecting with newborns, skin to skin contact and added:

“Our surrogate [who had just had a C-section] went into recovery, and we were able to go immediately into another hospital room. I had one of my New York & Company sweaters on, but skin-to-skin was kind of hard. And because the doctors kept coming in…it was easier to have skin to skin in a hospital gown.”

It is a fantastic time for them, as they climbed many mountains to be able to hold and spend time with their child, as Gabrielle had previously been open about her struggle to get pregnant while having endured several miscarriages.

Gabrielle’s Christmas card featured her with none other than little Kaavia, both dressed in white as they cozily cuddled utterly content. Her holiday message to everyone was inspirational as she spread words of hope:

“Merry Christmas! To everyone feeling alone, scared, unsafe, unsure, without hope... hang on. Hang on. You are loved, and you are not alone. Been there, hold on. Love and Light to all.”
