Kim Porter's son Quincy Brown shares picture with Mary J Blige in celebration of her 48th birthday
Quincy Brown, son of the late Kim Porter, paid a birthday tribute to Mary J. Blige in a recent Instagram post. Blige was very close to Porter and once called her a “protector.”
Brown took to social media on Blige’s birthday, January 11, to share a heartwarming photo accompanied by a simple yet heartfelt message.
Alongside a picture of himself, his twin sisters Jessie and D’Lila, and Blige, Brown wrote:
“Happy Birthday Aunty @therealmaryjblige”
In the photo, one of the twins wrapped herself around the Hip-Hop icon while another held on to Brown who cuddled the entire group.
FRIEND-TURNED-FAMILY
Fans of the “Star” actor will not be surprised to see him refer to Blige as “Aunty” because she provided emotional support for their family when Porter died suddenly last November.
The “No More Drama” singer held hands with Sean “Diddy” Combs, the father of Porter’s children, at the emotional November 24 funeral. Blige was also one of those who delivered a moving eulogy that drove her to tears as well.
In an audio clip obtained by The Blast, the 48-year-old recalled how Porter tried to save her from getting into a tumultuous marriage with her ex-husband, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs.
FRIENDLY ADVICE
Blige tied the knot with Isaacs in 2003, but before then, she went on a yacht trip with Porter and Diddy and recalled her interaction with the late model.
“She was protective over me. She asked me was I ready,” Blige said before yielding to tears and adding:
“She made me question myself a lot. I think about those questions now she asked me now that I’m in the situation I’m in. Kim was always a protector, she protected me. And every time I saw her, I just felt like I was seeing my grandmother or somebody.”
It turned out Porter’s seeming skepticism was justified because, 15 years down the line, in 2018, Blige finalized her divorce from Isaacs after a long, acrimonious battle that played out publicly in the media and saw Blige lose a lot of money.
“She protected us, she’s still protecting us. I love you, Kim Porter, so much,” finished the “Be Without You” singer.
REMEMBERING PORTER
Porter’s death came as a shock to her family and friends who mourned her for a long time. Almost a month after her death, Brown still remembered his mom with a nostalgic post, saying:
“You showed me how to simply live life and be happy no matter the circumstances. So that’s exactly what I’m doing. I miss you & love you so much mommy.”
Brown is Porter’s only son with record producer Al B. Sure, but he was adopted and raised by Diddy, with whom Porter shares three kids, the twins and a 20-year-old son Christian Combs.
