Tina Lawson slammed over Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 12-year age gap after commenting on R. Kelly scandal

Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Lawson, got more than she bargained for after commenting on R. Kelly’s sexual abuse scandal. She was reminded that her son-in-law, who she recently described in glowing terms, also had alleged indiscretions.

Since the airing of “Surviving R. Kelly,” the explosive docu-series that details the singer’s alleged sexually abusive behavior towards countless women and underage girls, there have been a lot of reactions from fans and celebrities alike.

Jada Pinkett Smith, who had previously spoken out against Kelly, recently invited one of his victims, Lisa van Allen, to her Facebook series, “Red Table Talk.”

Lisa, who was 17 at the time she met and began a romantic relationship with the “Gotham City” singer tearfully shared her experience with Jada and described Kelly as “sickening” and “a master manipulator.”

In a clip from the show shared by The Jasmine Brand, Lisa can be heard saying: “Me at 17 dating a 31-year-old. How would I know what the love of a man is supposed to be?”

According to Celebrity Insider, she added:

“I came out in 2008, and nobody heard me. In 2008 there weren’t any movements, nobody else was talking about it. I came out hoping that I could help the victims and the girl on the tape because I knew her family wasn’t going to speak. So I felt like, somebody has to stand up. They threatened my life. There was a lot I was dealing with. I was pregnant. You can’t let that stuff stop you. You can’t be afraid.”

Tina left a comment on the video, praising Jada for giving the women a platform and calling for everyone to stop condemning them.

“This is so important to put out there, to have a dialogue about, to give these women a chance to explain how vulnerable you can be at this young age,” Tina wrote. “I think if everyone was totally honest and brave enough about their life experiences, I think a high percentage of women have been through some physical, mental, or sexual abuse.”

Some netizens were, however, quick to remind the 65-year-old of the 12-year age gap between her superstar daughter Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z.

They also reminded her that Jay-Z has allegedly had romantic relationships in the past with teenage artists like Foxy Brown.

“Girl your 16 yo daughter met Jay when he was 28. Bye!” one follower commented.

“JayZ was sleeping with Foxy at 15 or 16 ....be careful,” another claimed.

Tina recently described her son-in-law as “amazingly talented, super smart, gracious [and] classy” when the latter celebrated his birthday last month. Posting a photo of Jay-Z on Instagram, she wrote:

“You have done so much for our Culture, Thank you for that! I could not be more happy to have you in my family and could not be more happy to be in yours. …I have watched you grow personally in leaps and bounds, and you are an incredible husband and the best Father! I love you.”

The “Family Feud” rapper also joined his wife, Beyoncé, and other family members to surprise Tina about two weeks ago for her 65th birthday party.
