Pregnant Jessica Simpson just revealed her baby's name and it's quite a rare one

Last weekend, singer Jessica Simpson had a baby shower for the third child she’s expecting. The name of the child was also used as the theme for the shower.

A source has revealed that the little girl’s strange name is actually a family name.

Jessica Simpson, 38, and her husband retired NFL player Eric Johnson, 39, are expecting a baby girl this year. The child will be named Birdie.

A source close to the family confirmed the child’s name. The insider shared:

“Birdie is the baby’s name. It was a great day. Jessica is feeling very loved and she is ready for [Birdie] to come. She felt very loved, surrounded by her closest friends and her mom and her sister.”

The source was referring to the baby shower that Simpson had recently. The name little girl’s name was featured at the event on a neon sign reading “Birdie’s Nest.”

The musician has also shared a number of images that had the same phrase in their captions. Her baby’s chosen name was the theme for the baby shower.

Even the menu was written: “A little Birdie told me.” The theme followed through in the menu by encouraging Simpson’s guests to “stuff your beaks.”

The insider further revealed: “The shower was a bird’s nest theme to celebrate Birdie.” They also explained that “Birdie is a family name” on the singer’s side and that Simpson "just loved the name and thought it was so sweet."

The musician and her husband are already parents to son Ace Knute, 5½, and daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 6½. Simpson hasn’t been shy to share her pregnancy pictures online.

In one photo, the star is seen with her mother Tina, her younger sister Ashlee Simpson Ross, and Ross’ daughter Jagger Snow, 3. The singer and Johnson announced they were expecting their third child last year in September.

The announcement was shared in a photo of their children holding black balloons. The caption read: "SURPRISE..." A second picture showed the children surrounded by pink balloons that revealed the child’s gender.

That post was captioned:

"This little baby girl will make us a family of five. We couldn't be happier to announce this precious blessing of life."

The singer hasn’t had a smooth ride with her third pregnancy; she’s suffered from swollen feet this month. She posted a follow-up image that revealed that she was trying cupping therapy which is an ancient Chinese massage therapy technique thought to increase blood circulation.

Simpson posted an image of her foot with three suction cup-like tools on it and then showed off the good results.
