Heartwarming video shows Dunkin’ Donuts employee dancing with autistic customer
With all the evil happening in the world, it is always a breath of fresh air when some good happen. That was the case at Dunkin’ Donuts, where an employee was recorded dancing with his autistic customer.
A customer Donald Simon, who suffers from a rare form of autism that makes it impossible for him to make sounds when communicating, walked into a donut shop in Staten Island, New York.
Donald was approached by a staff of the restaurant, Bryan Lara and when he was informed that Donald could not speak, he started to dance with him.
In the video which went viral, they both danced to Lady Gaga's- Paparazzi.
The clip shows a very excited Donald, smiling and exchanging high fives with Bryan Lara. Donna Maxon, Donald’s mum, had this to say:
“It's very touching to me that he made my son so happy, most people would not pay attention to Donald as soon as they realize he is unable to communicate, but Bryan figured a way to communicate without words.”
“I am always dancing, and when I saw Donald smile, it was a great feeling. I love my customers.” - Lara said.
Maxon posted a picture of the two, Donald and Lara on Thursday and captioned it:
“Thumbs up for human kindness.”
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behavior, speech, and non-verbal communication.
There are different types of autism, and each has its unique qualities. Studies have shown that autism affects 1 in 59 children, with signs starting to appear by age 2 to 3.
Many people with autism also have sensory issues; this can include aversions to certain sights, sounds, and other sensations. Autism is usually accompanied by, Gastrointestinal Disorders (GI), seizures and sleep disturbances.
Early intervention can change a life, improve learning skills as well as underlying brain development. Although it can be hard for individuals and their families to go through all this, they don't have to be alone. Putting a simple smile on their face could make a difference.
And that is why the world applauds Bryan Lara; for his kindness towards Donald Simon.
