Beyoncé & Jay-Z show respect as they 'bow down' to Meghan Markle in honor of Black History Month
Beyonce and Jay-Z share their recent win at the Brit Awards with Meghan Markle as they honor her on Black History Month.
Beyonce and Jay-Z recently won at the Brit Awards for Best International Group and while they couldn’t make it to the affair, their acceptance speech on video made quite an impression.
In a post of the couple's acceptance speech, they stood against a backdrop of Meghan Markle’s painting as they thanked the award-giving body for the honor.
“Thank you so much to the Brit awards for this incredible honor,” Beyoncé says first as she looks into the camera. “You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love. Thank you.”
Her husband replies with “You’re welcome” before the two turned to look at Meghan’s portrait.
The painting the couple used was created by artist Tim O'Brien and was featured in the cover of the alumnae magazine of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the royal's sorority.
Many wondered why the Carters opted to pay tribute to Meghan alongside their win. The clip did seem like a reenactment of their “Apesh*t” video where they stood in front of the Mona Lisa. However, fans would later learn in Beyonce’s post that it was a nod to Black History Month and to Meghan’s role in Black history.
Sharing a pic of the couple in front of Meghan’s portrait, the singer wrote,
“Thank you to the Brits for the award for Best International Group. I won this award back in 2002 with my besties, Kelly and Michelle. How lucky am I to have been in a group with my other best friend, the GOAT Hova.”
And as a tribute to Meghan, she added,
“In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
The Duchess of Sussex has been getting a lot of support from friends lately after taking countless hits from controversies involving her estranged family. In spite of it all, she managed to sneak out of London to fly to New York and attend her baby shower hosted by her friends. She was spotted trying to keep a low profile on the streets of New York meeting up with friends like her “Suits” co-star Abigail Spencer and Serena Williams. Her shower was reportedly arranged by her best friend, Jessica Mulroney.
