Royal Baby Sussex Was Reportedly Born at an Undisclosed London Hospital
Meghan Markle, 37, reportedly gave birth at a hospital in London, despite opting for a home birth, on Sunday after being brought by Prince Harry and their Scotland Yard security team secretly.
Baby Sussex was born at an unnamed London hospital after the Scotland Yard security team dashed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex out of their Windsor home on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail. The royal couple stayed overnight until their baby’s delivery at 5:26 am.
Markle, who was already a week overdue, was brought to the hospital secretly, without even the senior royals knowing. There is no verification whether she was induced, but Prince Harry never left her side while at labor.
Although Buckingham Palace failed to comment on the report regarding the royal baby’s birth, the Portland hospital, where a ‘basic’ delivery estimates over £15,000, was the speculated place of birth. It is also the same hospital Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were born.
Markle initially wanted a home birth at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate with all-female midwives, but the choice would be what was best for her first born. Given her age and that it was her first baby, medical intervention had a significant probability.
Gil Walton, the chief executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, released a statement which implied the involvement of midwives. The statement read:
“We wish them the best of health and happiness in the future. I would also offer our thanks to the midwives and other health professionals who have supported the Duchess and her family through her pregnancy and who will support her after the birth.”
Details about the birth were concealed from the public, as mentioned in a statement released by the palace. However, details will appear on the birth certificate of the child, which should be completed in the following days.
Information released by the Buckingham Palace as of now are the baby boy’s weight upon delivery being 7lbs 3oz, the time of birth at 5:26 am, and the excellent condition of the mother and son.
Additionally, the palace announced that Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, was ‘overjoyed’ as she visited her daughter and first grandchild at the Frogmore Cottage in Windsor on Sunday. Harry, who spoke to the press, also beamed with happiness as he made the announcement.
The new father described the birth as an “amazing experience” and that he was “incredibly proud” of his wife. He also disclosed that the couple has not chosen a name for their son yet, but will soon share what they agree on.
