Meghan Markle’s Friend Cries in an Emotional Video While Calling Archie the ‘Dawn of a New Generation’
CBS News talked to some of Meghan’s closest friends for a TV special that reflects on the importance and meaning of the Duchess’ becoming a mother and her cultural impact in the world.
One of the people who commented on the arrival of baby Archie, the first child of 37-year-old Meghan Markle and 34-year-old Prince Harry, was American makeup artist Daniel Martin, who prepared the former actress for the Royal Wedding.
Martin couldn’t hold back his tears as he told TV host Gayle King for the CBS special “Meghan and Harry Plus One” about how unfair it is to him that Markle has to deal with so much negative news coverage.
GETTING EMOTIONAL ABOUT HIS FRIEND
"What’s so frustrating is that you hear these stories and there’s no truth to them. It’s not the same person. In the years I’ve known her, the years I’ve worked with her, she’s never had a diva fit, never," Martin recalls.
"I know she doesn’t deserve all of this negative press," the Hollywood makeup artist added.
In a more positive spirit, Martin shared his views on the significance of the arrival of Archie Harrison in May. “Their child is going to represent what the world is now. This is the dawn of a new generation. I don't know, it's just relevant,” he said.
LONGTIME FRIENDS
Martin not only was present at the Royal Wedding, but he also was one of the guests of Markle’s New York baby shower. Recently, Martin visited his friend at her Kensington Palace residence and called her a “consummate hostess.”
He took to his Instagram account to post a picture of what he was served at the royal household: avocado on toast on a silver platter and assorted Fortnum & Mason chocolate truffles.
Moreover, Martin, whose famous clients include Jessica Alba and Catherine Zeta-Jones, is one of the few people who has visited Markle on her recent home at Frogmore Cottage, weeks before she delivered her first born.
ARCHIE HARRISON
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, as the baby was fully named, was born on May 6, as announced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recently released Instagram account @SussexRoyal.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz,” the statement read.
Two days after the expected birth of “Baby Sussex,” he made his public debut at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle, where he also was photographed with his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II for the first time.
“It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” Markle said in her first public appearance since welcoming her son.
