Why Tia Mowry Doesn't Spank Her Children - but Tamera Does
Tia Mowry-Hardrict and her identical twin, Tamera Mowry-Housley, share many similarities, but parenting techniques is not one of them. Tia revealed why she doesn’t spank her children even though Tamera does.
Tia recently stopped by “The Breakfast Club” to promote her new Netflix series “Family Reunion” and among the things she discussed is how her upbringing influenced the way she raises her eight-year-old son Cree and one-year-old daughter Cairo.

GROWING UP
“You know, I was whooped,” Tia told the radio hosts. “My mom, she was very strict; still is. …I grew up being spanked.”
Her experience growing up, however, appeared to have helped Tia decide that she wasn’t going to use the same discipline technique with her kids.
“I see it differently, the “Twitches” star continued. “If you’re spanking your kid, in my opinion, it’s because of you; it’s because of you and where you are in your headspace.”
A NEW PERSPECTIVE
She explained:
“You’re impatient, you just want to get this done and over with whereas I feel like if you don’t spank them, then it takes more time, you have to talk to them, you have to explain. But I feel like there is, in my opinion, a better outcome because you’re explaining and you’re saying why as opposed to just hitting them. But that’s just my opinion.”
When asked if Tamera spanks her kids – six-year-old son Aden and four-year-old daughter Ariah – Tia confirmed that “she does, she spanks her children.” The “Tia Mowry’s Quick Fix” star made sure to add though that she would never let Tamera spank Cree or Cairo.
THE TRADITIONAL TWIN
Tia first highlighted the differences in her and Tamera’s parenting styles as far back as 2015 when her son was only four.
The former child star told Yahoo Parenting at the time that she’s less traditional than her sister, choosing to let Cree hit his milestones at his pace.
“She [Tamera] doesn’t co-sleep, and I do. I also never pushed my son to walk, and I won’t do ‘cry it out’ [sleep training],” Tia shared. “Cree only started sleeping in his own bed when he was three and a half. My husband was fine with that.”
DIFFERENCES WORK, TOO
Describing her sister as more like their mom, Tia said:
“Tamera is more by the book, like my own mom who says, ‘Why does Cree still have a bottle in his mouth?’ I say, ‘Mom, he’s not going to college with a pacifier or co-sleep when he’s a teen.’”
In spite of their differences, Tia revealed that she and the “The Real” co-host “give each other advice and learn from each other.”
Tia and Tamera became fan favorites in the ‘90s when they starred in the ABC and WB-aired sitcom, “Sister, Sister” and it’s good to see that the two have grown into grounded women. The sisters turn 41 in a few days on July 6.
