Whoopi Goldberg's Signature Dark Dreadlocks Are Silver as She Rocks Faux Locs on ‘the View’
Whoopi Goldberg has fans doing a double-take as she debuts silver hair on “The View.” Not to worry, though, because she explained how the drastic change came about.
When fans tuned in to “The View” on Wednesday, they, as well as the studio audience, were shocked to see a strange sight. Goldberg’s signature black dreadlocks had been replaced with platinum faux locs.

Alongside a picture of the co-host and her new hair, the ABC talk show’s Instagram page later revealed that the switch is for Goldberg’s new role in the upcoming CBS series “The Stand.”

Per O, The Oprah Magazine, “The Stand” is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name and follows an epidemic which wipes out 99 percent of the population.
MORE "NEW HAIR" DETAILS
Goldberg, 63, shared more details about why she’s now rocking platinum hair. According to the “Sister Act” star, she plays the role of Mother Abigail, a character who is over 100 years old.
“We may spread, but the hair always looks good,” Goldberg explained after co-host Joy Behar brought up the topic of her new look.
OLDER BLACK WOMEN
She continued:
“This is why I feel like people need to know that 100 is no longer what you think 100 used to be. When he [King] first wrote this book, Mother Abigail was probably this tall and. …she was so wrinkly. The reason for that was because people had no idea what older black women looked like. Now, we’re looking at older black women and you see amazing faces.”

DROPPING HINTS
Goldberg added that she'd be wearing the silver look for about four months but hinted that Mother Abigail would look nothing like her.
"You haven't seen me painted up yet. I'll have you wait until you see what she looks like; it's kind of amazing what these guys have done with my face," the screen legend said. "She's gonna look like an old lady."
HEALTH CRISIS
Goldberg also thanked ABC for letting her go back to her “first love.” One of the few people to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT) awards, the actress is returning to acting months after she almost died from pneumonia.
Goldberg was away from her hosting duties on “The View” for over a month earlier this year and revealed that she “came very, very close to leaving the earth.”
MIXED REACTIONS
After returning to work in March, Goldberg told fans that she was taking things slowly on the road to recovery, and taking up a new role in “The Stand” implies she’s in a better place now.
Meanwhile, it seems Goldberg’s new look is sparking mixed reviews among social media users. The Shade Room reposted an image of the hair on Instagram and while some netizens were all for it, others were against the change.

“Whoopi can do whatever she wants,” one fan wrote while another echoed “She can do no wrong.”
On the other hand, an Instagram user said Goldberg’s hair gave off “mop vibes” while another blatantly declared: “Two words: A MESS.”
