Alex Trebek, 79, released a public service announcement that lasted 60 seconds with the "Jeopardy!" show's logo on display in the background. There were purple clouds surrounding it for a reason.

As for the legendary talk show host, he wore a checkered purple undershirt and matching tie in solidarity for the cause. The clip is found below.

What do the numbers say?

As soon as Trebek came on, he gave some shocking statistics. He claimed that pancreatic cancer is the only "major cancer with a 5-year survival rate in the single digits."

Trebek then announced his collaboration with the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition which aims to raise international awareness of the risks and symptoms of the disease.

He added:

"I wish I had known sooner that the persistent stomach pain I experienced prior to my diagnosis was a symptom of pancreatic cancer."

How can you recognize the disease?

The television personality went on to list other symptoms including "mid-back pain, unexplained weight loss, new-onset diabetes, and the yellowing of the skin or eyes."

Trebek implored viewers to join him in three ways: by wearing purple, by spreading awareness via social media, and by getting more information on the World Pancreatic Cancer Day website.

The recognition for pancreatic cancer will be on November 21 this year. According to People, Trebek's alliance includes 80 organizations based in 30 countries fighting for the cause.

When did Trebek's battle start?

The website further explained that the low survival rate of pancreatic disease falls on a lack of risk and symptom awareness, hence Trebek's push to spread the word.

The iconic host has been battling the disease since his own stage four diagnosis in March. The grim news drew tons of support from fans and has not dimmed his positive light.
