Solange Knowles Announces Split from Husband Alan Ferguson after Nearly 5 Years of Marriage

Solange Knowles shocked fans on Friday with the announcement of her split from husband, Alex Ferguson. Ironically, the revelation comes mere days ahead of what would have been the estranged couple's fifth anniversary.

Solange, 33, is known for keeping her private life away from the spotlight, so it’s not surprising that the singer would choose to announce her separation months after the actual event.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Solange revealed that she and the music video director called it quits "early this year:"

"11 years ago I met a phenomenal man who changed every existence of my life. Early this year we separated and parted ways, (and tho it ain’t nan nobody business) I find it necessary to protect the sacredness of my personal truth and to live in it fully just as I have before and will continue to do."

The singer and younger sister to Beyoncé also implied that specific physical and spiritual changes she went through in the last two years had something to do with her opening up. According to O, The Oprah Magazine, Solange revealed back in 2017 that she’d been treating an unnamed autonomic disorder.

"The past 2 years have brought me more physical and spiritual transition and evolution than ever before," she shared in her emotional post. "My body left me with no choice but to listen and be still. Within that stillness, I begin my journey in confronting my worst enemy, fear."

"I’ve lived my best and worst moments in front of the lens and gaze of the world since I was a teenager," the "Dreams" singer continued. "I’ve always tried to live in my truth no matter how ugly or full of love it is. I’ve also tried to carve out the space to protect my heart, and my life as it unfolds, evolves, and changes."

Solange further lamented the unfairness of not having "power of your own story," but confirmed that she’s “leaning into the fear of the unknown." Ending her submission with a note of positivity, she told fans:

"May all of your transitions no matter how big or small, be kind to you and filled with incredible love and light!"

Solange and Alex, 56, tied the knot on November 16, 2014 before 200 friends and family members at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans. The singer shares a 15-year-old son, Julez, with her first husband, Daniel Smith.
