Michael Strahan’s mother, Louise Strahan, is no stranger to being on camera thanks to her son’s career. But while she’s usually a guest to Michael’s show, there was one time she was the star, and all the attention was focused on her incredible makeover and weight-loss.

Former NFL star and “Good Morning America” presenter Michael Strahan is known for being a dedicated father of four and a loving son to his parents, Louise and Gene Strahan.

His father, an Army veteran, and his mother, a former basketball coach, raised Michael to become the man he is today, and they couldn’t be prouder of the New York Giants star’s achievements at his 48-years of age.

So, when it comes to giving back to his parents, Strahan is always ready to go far and beyond to make them happy.

This is why, looking out for their best interests, Strahan teamed up with longtime friend Dr. Ian Smith to craft an intervention that would help Louise and Gene start a healthier lifestyle.

LOSING WEIGHT

The process took place throughout nine months, where Dr. Smith worked closely with Gene and Louise, and fans got to witness some of it in Rachael Ray’s show.

Smith pointed out Louise and Gene’s bad eating habits—gummies, buckets of popcorn and frozen fried chicken wings, among others—and gave them a guide to start changing their alimentation.

Smith, who’s famous for the SHRED diet, taught Strahan’s parents some healthy snacks alternatives and also gave them a lesson on portions sizes using a card deck, a baseball, and some dices as examples.

The pair also had to start an exercise routine, and to encourage his mother, Michael Strahan promised Louise he would buy a new wardrobe for her if she followed through with a healthy lifestyle.

THE BIG REVEAL

After several months of intense work alongside Dr. Smith, the final weighing day came accompanied by a unique makeover for Louise, and the then 67-year-old left everyone speechless.

She walked out, looking stunning in a blue dress that hugged her significantly slimmer figure and a pair of silver shoes. She also had her hair styled for the occasion and rocked a pink lipstick to accentuate her beauty.

It was then revealed that Louise lost 38 pounds. She went from a size 22 to a size 16, and she looked proud of herself for all the hard work put into it.

When Michael joined his parents on the show, he was amazed at the change and had only praises for Louise. And of course, he said he’d fulfill his promise and buy a new wardrobe for his beautiful mom.

MICHAEL’S WEIGHT LOSS STORY

When Michael Strahan was a teenager, his other siblings used to call him Bob and laugh about it. However, he didn’t know what was so funny until a friend of his brothers revealed the truth: Bob stood for Booty on Back.

“They’d laugh at me, and I didn’t get it. I’m 13 years old at the time,” he recalled to Men’s Journal. “Like my butt was so big I could reach for my wallet over my shoulder. I broke down.”

Strahan then started to watch workout tapes and exercise on the gym to shape his body to his liking. And three months into it, his father joined, as he recalled:

“My dad saw me doing it every day and said, ‘Hey, I’ll work out with you.’ We’d work out five or six days a week, and he would always say, ‘Don’t worry, it’ll pay off one day.’”

And it did pay off. Exercising was Michael’s way of approaching sports, and when he discovered that he was not only good in football, but also passionate, he knew he had found his path in life.

He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1993 and played with them for 14 years, helping them win the Super Bowl XLII over the New England Patriots in his final season in 2007.

Afterward, Strahan became a TV personality, offering comments on Fox NFL Sunday, and co-hosting several morning shows.

He’s currently a co-host of ABC’s “Good Morning America” third hour with Sara Haines and Keke Palmer.

MEET HIS FAMILY

Michael Strahan’s kids are all grown-up now, and he’s continuously gushing about them on social media and television.

He shares his two eldest kids, Tanita and Michael Jr., with his first ex-wife, Wanda Hutchins. Tanita is a graduate from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, while her brother pursued a degree in psychology.

Michael’s twin daughters, Sophie and Isabella, are the product of his marriage to Jean Muggli, with whom he had an ugly divorce after she slandered his name on the press, saying he was a neglecting father and a cheater.

Still, Michael has a close relationship with his four children, and although Tanita and Michael were not raised with the twins, they all get along wonderfully.

“You worry how the kids will mix and blend, but brothers and sisters are brothers and sisters regardless of different mothers,” Strahan told People in 2016.
