Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's Brother Honors Late Sister on the Anniversary of Her Death
On August 31, 2020, it was the 23rd anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Her brother, Charles Spencer made sure to mark the day by posting a tribute on social media.
Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, made sure he honored her on the 23rd anniversary of her death. He took to Twitter to share how his family marked the special day.
The ninth Earl Spencer shared a photo of his family’s flag flying at half-mast at Althorp. He captioned the post:
“My first family duty on 31 August. Never forgotten.”
WHERE DIANA GRE UP
Althorp House in Northamptonshire, England is where the People’s Princess grew up with her brother. The home has been in the Spencer family for more than 500 years.
Princess Diana will be honored in a very special way by her sons on what would've been her 60th birthday.
Spencer and his family currently live in the home and it’s also where Diana was buried. The late royal passed away on August 31, 1997, after being involved in a car crash in Paris.
HOW OLD SHE WAS ON HER DEATH
The People’s Princess passed away at age 36 with her companion Dodi Al Fayed who was 42. She was trying to get away from the paparazzi when the crash occurred.
In 2017, the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, “Our Mother Diana: Her Life and Legacy” aired featuring the royal’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry. In the special, the siblings spoke candidly about losing their mother so suddenly.
SONS WERE YOUNG WHEN DIANA DIED
When their mother died, William was only 15 while Harry was 12. The younger royal recalled how they had a brief call with their mother before she died.
The siblings rushed the phone call with Diana because they were eager to get back to playing with their cousins at the Queen’s Scottish home in Balmoral. Speaking during the interview, Harry noted how he would’ve spoken to his mother more that day if he’d known it would be the last time they spoke.
PAYING TRIBUTE TO THEIR MOM
On the 23rd anniversary of her death, the two men also noted how they would be paying tribute to their mother. In a joint statement on Kensington Royal, William and Harry revealed a statue of the late royal would be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace.
The installation would be done on July 1, 2021, to mark Diana’s 60th birthday. The statue was commissioned in 2017 but the novel coronavirus outbreak caused a delay in completion.
Besides her brother, the late royal had two sisters, Sarah (now Lady Sarah McCorquodale) and Jane (now Lady Jane Fellowes). Spencer was her younger brother but she also had an older brother.
LOSING A SIBLING
John Spencer sadly died hours after his birth in January 1960. The older sibling was born a year and a half before Diana’s birth.

A CRYPTIC PHOTO
Days before her recent death anniversary, the Princess’s brother shared an image from photographs he found at his home. Spencer tweeted an image of a little girl from his family’s 19th-century photo album.
IMAGE KEPT BY GREAT-GREAT-AUNT
The unknown girl’s picture was kept by his great-great-aunt at Althorp House. The photo had fans trying to figure out who she could be but it seems this mystery won’t be solved.
