The Weeknd is one of the biggest musicians in the world. With a horde of hit projects and a legion of adoring fans, pretty much everything he does makes the news. Recently, however, he has been showing that he's got some fashion acumen too.
On Sunday, The Weeknd was one of the headliners of the MTV "Video Music Awards." The artist whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye gave a stirring performance of his hit song, "Blinding Lights" to open the show.
While fans have come to know The Weeknd for his silky-smooth voice and boyish charm, many also adored his attire. The artist donned a black and red suit which was reminiscent of how he dressed for the song's video.
The Canadian artist also wore the suit for his attire of the night. It came complete with makeup which made it look like he had been in a fight. He seemed to be channeling his inner Joker.
All in all, The Weeknd had one of the standout performances of the night. His set, which began with him looking passed out in a selfie-style clip, soon made way for several effects – including fireworks.
Soon enough, the artist found himself on a rooftop at the Edge at Hudson Yards. Reports explained that he had filmed the opening performance.
Whether filmed or not, it was obvious that this performance was one to remember. In a night that stood out, The Weeknd managed to bring his A-game.
Many believe that The Weeknd is one of this generation's closest iterations to the late Michael Jackson. If Sunday's performance proved anything, it's that this man can rock a stage.

Heading into the night, The Weeknd was up for six awards. These included the two top awards — Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. While he lost Artist of the Year to Lady Gaga, The Weeknd picked up the Video of the Year award.
The Canadian artist went on to give a speech that touched on racial injustice and police brutality. The Weeknd also got the award for R&B Video of the Year. Both awards were for the "Blinding Lights" video.
