MEETING BEN AARON
Aaron accompanied a friend to a charity event at a Soulcycle in New York, the two ran into Zee. Aaron's friend knew Zee, and the three struck up a conversation.
At the end of the evening, Aaron walked Zee home through Central Park, and by the time they arrived at her doorstep, the journalist was head over heels in love. However, he was about to have a rude awakening.
When he arrived home the journalist discovered that Zee had sent him an email, informing him that she just wanted to "be friends"... Aaron was devastated. He confessed:
“There was no way I wanted to be just friends with this girl. So, I asked her out.”
Fortunately, he managed to convince Zee to date him, and two years later, he dropped down on one knee in Central Park, and asked her to marry him. The two were married in July 2014, in a romantic lakeside ceremony in Bay Harbour.
In December 2015, Aaron and Zee welcomed their first son, Adrian Benjamin, and in February 2018, the family grew again with the arrival of their second son, Miles.
Aaron and Zee are an exemplary couple, not because they are perfect people with a perfect life, but because they have used their love to overcome devastating issues
Dealing with two children under the age of 5 isn't easy, and Zee admits that Aaron is an exceptional father, who shares the tasks of parenting, and when because she does a lot of traveling for work, he often handles the boys on his own.
Aaron is currently working for WPIX-TV in New York, as a features reporter for the PIX11 Morning News, but from 2017 to 2019, he was a co-host alongside country singer Kellie Pickler on the TV talk show "Pickler & Ben."
REACHING OUT TO OTHERS
In 2019, Aaron revealed on social media that he suffers from severe OCD, an issue which he has been dealing with all his life, and of which very few people besides his wife and immediate family were aware.
OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, compels the sufferer to uncontrollably repeat behaviors, thoughts or rituals over and over again. Aaron opened up about his issue in the hope that he might help other people battling OCD.
Zee herself revealed that she has been battling depression for most of her life in her book "Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I Am One." In the book, Zee described her struggle to cling to life, her suicidal thoughts.
Some of her worse moments came at a time when her career was booming and she looked happy and content. What no-one realized was that under her energy, her smiles, she was suffering.
Aaron and Zee are an exemplary couple, not because they are perfect people with a perfect life, but because they have used their love to overcome devastating issues that would have destroyed other relationships.
One of the ways Aaron and Zee keep their bond strong is by making sure they have plenty of quality alone time together. The two make sure they have date nights during which they can talk to each other, about everything and anything, without interruptions.
Zee and Aaron are devoted to their two adorable boys, and determined to help all those people out there who are struggling with mental health issues, and afraid to ask for help.
