Actor Russell Crowe is mourning the death of his father, John Alexander Crowe. Russell took to his Twitter page early Tuesday morning to announce his father's demise. In a series of tweets, he wrote:

"I arrived back in the bush last night...this date will forever be tinged with sadness. My dear old man, my beautiful dad, the most gentle of men, has passed away."

He further wrote that he was posting the message because he knows there are people worldwide whose hearts were touched by his father and whose ribs were tickled with his sparkly eyes and cheeky attitude, adding:

"...and this is probably as efficient a method as any to pass on the news."

In a third tweet, Russell wrote his dad's dates of birth and death, 13th March 1936-30th March 2021. He also wrote that his late dad was born in Christchurch, New Zealand.

John Alexander died in Coffs Harbour, NSW, his home for the past 25 years. Russell concluded his tweet by urging his dad to rest in peace.

He revealed his sons chose Sydney because of Uber Eats' availability rather than enjoy his paternal care.

Russell and his late father isolated together on his Australian property last April amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The star actor shared a picture showing his dad wearing a cap he got on the set of his 2002 film, "A Beautiful Mind," which earned him an Oscar nomination.

John Alexander inspired Russell to enter the movie industry. The actor's family moved from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia, when he was just four-years-old.

Russell's late dad and mother, Jocelyn, worked as movie set caterers. John Alexander also worked as a hotel manager. Russell has been lying low in "the bush" amid the pandemic.

However, he is doing so alone as his two sons, Tennyson, 14, and Charles, 16, refused to join him. Last July, the 56-year-old actor revealed his teenage sons turned down his offer to live with him at the family's country estate in Nana Glen, New South Wales.

Instead, Tennyson and Charles chose to stay with their mother, Danielle Spencer, in Sydney. He revealed his sons chose Sydney because of Uber Eats' availability rather than enjoy his paternal care, which did not impress him so much.

Russell is famous for his starring role in "Gladiator," a movie that skyrocketed his fame to newer levels, earning him an Oscar award for Best Actor. In a chat with People, he said "Gladiator" sort of took fame to the other place where one was no longer themself anymore.
