As the youngest daughter of former President Barack Obama, Sasha Obama grew up before everyone’s eyes. While her childhood was out of the ordinary, she’s still quite relatable.

When Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election and moved into the White House, Sasha, whose real name is Natasha, was only seven years old. Since then, she’s been on everyone’s radar.

While growing up in the White House is something not many kids and teens are used to, she’s actually pretty ordinary. Sasha is a huge Jonas Brothers fan, and they even surprised her and her older sister, Malia, at the White House.

Sasha loved One Direction, too. She even celebrated her 13th birthday at their concert. Her celeb crush is Ryan Reynolds, and it became evident in 2016 when the “Deadpool” actor visited the White House.

Celebrities aside, Barack Obama’s daughter loves to dance, and her dad frequently took some time off from his presidential duties to be at her dance recitals.

Apart from that, Sasha had a summer job when she was 15 years old, just like most young people. In her case, she was a waitress at a seafood restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Six Secret Service agents were around the area at all times, making sure she was safe. It is clear that living in the White House has its fair share of challenges, but the most significant difficulty in Sasha Obama’s life came when she was a baby.

SASHA OBAMA’S HEALTH SCARE

In a campaign video, the former POTUS explained that the most challenging time in his life didn’t have to do with handling any political situation but Sasha’s meningitis.

When Sasha was only three months old, she was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease. Barack and his wife, Michelle Obama, took her to the hospital, where doctors even gave her a “spinal tap.”

Barack admitted that “your world narrows” to just the situation at hand during such a difficult time. He only cared about Sasha’s wellbeing, and she luckily made a full recovery and is healthy nowadays.

SASHA OBAMA’S UNIVERSITY AND PROM

Going to prom is a significant milestone even if you grew up in the White House. In May 2019, photos of Sasha and her date, Chris Milton, posing before going to prom went viral.

Sasha is focused on her academic life and keeping herself away from the spotlight.

Michelle and Barack Obama’s daughter wore a black dress with a high slit that showed off her legs. Sasha also put on black high heels and kept the accessories simple with a small necklace and hoop earrings.

Barack famously said he has a carefree attitude about his daughters' dating lives because Michelle has shown them that a woman shouldn’t depend on boys to validate their looks or be judged in any way. Also, “they have Secret Service.”

When Sasha graduated high school, she began studying at the University of Michigan. Michelle confessed she and her husband helped her move into her dorm and cried after their “last goodbye.”

NERVOUS ABOUT THE FUTURE

Earlier this year, Michelle Obama admitted to being excited for the next chapter in her daughters’ lives, who will turn 23 and 20 this year. However, she doesn’t want to worry about them being mistreated just because they’re Black.

The former FLOTUS pointed out that she was relieved when a jury convicted Derek Chauvin, the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd. Still, there’s “work to be done.”

Sasha and Malia Obama are not teenagers anymore. Malia is expected to graduate from Harvard later this year, and Sasha is focused on her academic life and keeping herself away from the spotlight.
