Daily Joke: Genghis Khan's Servants Misunderstand Him

Famous conqueror Genghis Khan was on an exploration trip when he stumbled across a majestic palace in Northern China. The palace was an architectural delight and featured beautiful ornaments and other incredible features.

Khan found the palace to be a marvelous sight and stood in awe and admiration. While standing in front of the palace, one of his generals asked him what they should do with it. Khan paused to think for a while and finally said:

"Raze it."

Khan's general was pleased with his instruction and smiled viciously. Immediately after Khan left, the general ordered his men to make preparations to bring the palace down.

The men got to work immediately. They knocked the palace's jaded pillars down and ripped its marble stairs. They also burned the palace, bringing down the ceiling and roof ornaments.

The soldiers also drove out the palace's inhabitants. A few hours later, the mighty palace had turned to rubble and burnt ashes. A few days passed and Khan held a great feast to celebrate his recent victory.

His top generals attended the feast and made merry with him. While they were eating and drinking, Khan asked the general how the business with the palace went.

The general revealed that things went according to plans. He said he put soldiers to work immediately, and they finished the task within hours.

Khan was pleased with hearing this and admitted that he never expected the general to finish the task. He asked the general to take him to the site the next day.

At the break of dawn, Khan and the general arrived at the site that used to be the grand palace. When they got there, the general confessed that the palace was truly grand but had no match for their fine soldiers.

The general hailed the destructive acts of his soldiers, revealing that they broke down every pillar and entrance and set every room ablaze. He added that they chased the palace's inhabitants away and saved the gold and treasure, which went into the treasury.

After narrating every act on the palace in Khan's name, the general expected to receive praise from his master. However, he was shocked to see that Khan had a looked of shock and dismay.

Finally, the great conqueror asked the general what happened to the palace and why it was destroyed. He seemed confused as he questioned the general, who was also confused.

In his reply, the general sheepishly told Khan that his instruction was for him to raze the palace, and he went ahead to do just that. However, Khan became red with rage and anger. Finally, he said:

"That's not what I meant, you cretin! I only wanted you to add a few storeys."
