GREGG'S LAST MESSAGES
The last two posts on Gregg's Instagram account notably featured photos of his amazing wife looking her best. While the one was a birthday tribute in honor of her 53rd birthday, the other was a testament to how much they had each other's back.
The birthday post, shared in December 2020, featured the television presenter, seated on a woven chair with her side-swept blond locks caressing her right shoulders and upper arm. He accompanied the shot with a touching tribute, which read:
"Happy birthday to my beautiful young queen. Ain't she a beauty, America? I just love her so much & wish her all her heart's desires on this day[...]"
NeNe sat cross-legged on a white stool in the second post, dressed in a black leather jumpsuit and wedge sandals. The outfit featured a transparent lacy design in front, exposing her voluptuous cleavage.
The TV personality radiated happiness in the shot, with her wide smile shining as bright as her blond curls. Gregg captioned, "She don't mess with youꟷI don't mess with you." The heartbreaking contents of these posts would forever stand as evidence of their undying love.
NENE AND GREGG'S LOVE STORY
NeNe met her late husband in 1996 while working as a dancer in a club in Atlanta. A year later, the duo tied the knot, officially uniting their blended family comprising NeNe's son, Bryson Bryant from a previous relationship, and Gregg's five kids with his exes.
In 1999, the lovebirds welcomed their first and only child together, a son named Brentt Leakes. But things weren't always rosy. After NeNe's reality show, "Real Housewives Of Atlanta," took off, the family became subject to constant scrutiny, which greatly affected their relationship.
The star filed for a divorce from her husband in 2010, admitting years later that she attempted to teach him a lesson. The split was short-lived, as NeNe and Gregg reunited in 2013, becoming engaged in January that year.
Six months after their engagement, the twosome exchanged vows again in a lavish ceremony in Atlanta, which aired on Bravo. They remained married until Gregg's death from cancer.
GREGG'S AILMENT AND DEATH
NeNe first opened up about her husband's ailing health in 2018, revealing via social media that he was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. Barely a year later, the couple excitedly revealed Gregg was cancer-free.
Their joy was short-lived. In June, NeNe released an update on her husband's health, confirming his cancer had returned. Gregg Leakes lost his battle with cancer on September 1, 2021, leaving behind his wife and the seven kids between them. He was sixty-six.
NENE GAVE THE HEADS-UP
Days before his demise, NeNe shared an update on her husband's health during a nightclub scandal in Atlanta. The incident happened at The Linnethia lounge in GA. A group of patrons at the club had reportedly tagged her as rude after failing to give them a birthday shoutout.
Clapping back at the clubgoers, NeNe took to the stage to reveal her family was going through a lot. She also implied that birthday shoutouts were the least of her worries when her husband was at home dying.
Before leaving the stage, the "RHOA" star appealed to the patrons to show her family some love and respect as they watched the family patriarch transition to the other side.
