Mary-Kate and Olivier's Love Story
Mary-Kate and Olivier Sarkozy's relationship started in 2012. The latter is the half-brother of Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president of France, who served between 2007 and 2012.
One of the most notable things about their romance was the age difference. When their relationship began, the former actress was 25, whereas her beau was 42.
However, the age gap did not bother the pair, and Mary-Kate's twin sister, Ashley, who liked the French native, cared less about doubters concerned over the lovebirds' age disparity.

Mary-Kate and Olivier grew in love, and after dating for ten months, the banker proposed. However, the fashion designer was not ready for marriage and waited three years before accepting her boyfriend's proposal.
Finally, in November 2015, the duo married in a beautiful ceremony in Manhattan. It was intimate but bizarre as it featured several bowls filled with cigarettes as centerpieces and people smoked all night.
Before Mary-Kate and Olivier walked down the aisle, the banker was already a doting father to two children, Julien and Margo, from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard.

So when the child star married him, she became a stepmother to his children. She loved the wife and stepmother roles and was keen on spending time with her family.
During an interview with the Edit, Mary-Kate revealed that after work, she would go home and cook dinner for the family. The former actress explained that it helped her relax and become more productive.
While she took care of the family, her ex-husband was in awe due to how young she was. An insider told Us Weekly that Olivier was smitten, and he thought Olsen was as bright as a whip. The source also explained that the father of two said Mary-Kate was mature for her age.

Facts About Her Divorce
Mary-Kate married the man of her dreams amid numerous negative opinions. In the following years, the couple had unresolved problems, which led to their split.
Mary-Kate continued to be a great wife and stepmom, but her marriage fell apart when she wanted biological children. The differences between the ex-couple continued to pile up, and on April 17, 2020, five years after they wed, she filed for divorce.
The once-happy marriage had become a nightmare, and according to a source, things became very ugly between the duo. It got so heated that Mary-Kate requested an emergency divorce order on May 13, 2020.

In the divorce petition, Mary-Kate alleged that Olivier refused to renew the monthly lease of 29 thousand dollars on an apartment they shared. Due to this problem, she said she was kicked out of the rented apartment in Gramercy.
In the court documents, Mary-Kate asked for continued access to the Gramercy home, their second home in Bridgehampton, and the third house in Manhattan.
Despite her claims, the New York courts denied Mary-Kate's emergency divorce petition. However, after months of being in and out of court, the couple's divorce was finalized in January 2021.

Why Did They Separate?
For a marriage that happened despite public opinion against it, many wondered why the couple divorced. In May 2020, a source revealed that one primary reason behind the split was whether or not the pair wanted children.
While Mary-Kate could not wait to have children, Olivier did not wish to have more kids. The source mentioned that initially, having children was not a priority for the "Full House" star, but as the years went by, she changed her mind.
On the other hand, Olivier was always satisfied with his two grown kids and did not have a change of heart. The ex-couple reportedly did not agree, leading to their separation.

After they split, Mary-Kate's former husband moved his children and their mother, Bernard, who called their wedding "grotesque," into their home in Bridgehampton, Long Island, where Olivier and Mary-Kate wed. Olivier claimed that he wanted to keep his family safe from COVID.
The child star could not stand living with her husband's ex-wife, and she was forced to move out. Yet, Olivier did not give her the divorce she wanted despite all of this.
