Mary-Kate Olsen's first marriage was to Olivier Sarkozy, despite an age difference of 17 years. Five years after they walked down the aisle, the union collapsed, and the former actress filed for divorce. Find out what happened.

From being a child star to teen idol, Former Actress and American Fashion Designer, Mary-Kate Olsen has been famous all her life. However, the celebrity quickly attained a plateau of success that only a few child stars reach with their unique charisma.

Olsen first appeared on TV screens when she was nine months old in the sitcom "Full House," and as she grew, so did her fame.

The former actress has notably tried her hands in other walks of life in recent times, which has put her in the spotlight. However, Olsen has made the headlines for another critical reason: her love life.

Like other celebrities, the fashion designer has been involved with different men but married only once. A few years ago, Olsen tied the knot with banker Olivier Sarkozy.

When they got married, it looked like the duo were the perfect celebrity couple, but they joined the list of celebrity marriages that crashed during the lockdown. Here are details about the star's tragedy.

Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy's relationship started in 2012. The latter is the half-brother of Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president of France, who served between 2007 and 2012.

One of the most shocking things about their romance was the age difference. When their relationship began, the former actress was 25, whereas her beau was 42.

However, the age gap did not bother the pair and Olsen's twin sister, Ashley. Ashley liked the French native and cared less about doubters concerned about the lovebirds.

Olsen and Olivier grew in love, and after dating for ten months, the banker proposed. However, the fashion designer was not ready for marriage and waited three years before accepting her boyfriend's proposal.

Finally, in November 2015, the duo married at a beautiful ceremony in Manhattan. The ceremony was intimate but bizarre as it featured several bowls filled with cigarettes as centerpieces and people smoked all night.

Olsen married the man of her dreams amid numerous negative opinions. In the following years, the couple had unresolved problems, which led to their split.

Before Olsen and Olivier walked down the aisle, the banker was already a doting father to two children, Julien and Margo, from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard.

So when the child star married him, she became a stepmother to his children. Olsen loved the wife and stepmother roles and was keen on spending time with her family.

During an interview with the Edit, Olsen noted that after work, she would go home and cook dinner for the family. The former actress explained that it helped her relax and become more productive.

While Olsen took care of the family, her ex-husband was in awe due to how young she was. An insider told Us Weekly that Olivier was smitten, and he thought Olsen was as bright as a whip. The source also explained that the father of two said his former wife was mature for her age.

Olsen continued to be a great wife and stepmom, but her marriage fell apart when she wanted biological children. The differences between the ex-couple continued to pile up, and on April 17, 2020, five years after their marriage, Olsen filed for divorce.

The once-happy marriage had become a nightmare, and according to a source, things became very ugly between the duo. It got heated that Olsen requested an emergency divorce order on May 13, 2020.

In the divorce petition, Olsen alleged that Olivier refused to renew the monthly lease of 29 thousand dollars on an apartment they shared. Due to this problem, Olsen said she was kicked out of the rented apartment in Gramercy.

In the court documents, Olsen asked for continued access to the Gramercy home, their second home in Bridgehampton, and the third house in Manhattan.

Despite her claims, the New York courts denied Olsen's emergency divorce. However, after months of being in and out of court, the couple's divorce was finalized in January 2021.

For a marriage that happened despite numerous public opinions, many wondered why they divorced. In May 2020, a source revealed that one primary reason behind the split was whether or not the pair wanted children.

While Olsen could not wait to have children, Olivier did not wish to have more kids. The source mentioned that initially, having children was not a priority for the "Full House" star, but as the years went by, she changed her mind.

On the other hand, Olivier was always satisfied with his two grown kids and did not change his heart. The ex-couple did not agree, leading to their separation.

After they split, Olsen's former husband moved his children and Bernard, who called Olsen's wedding "grotesque," into their home in Bridgehampton, Long Island.

Olivier claimed that he wanted to keep his children and their mother safe from COVID. However, it is important to note that the Bridgehampton home was used as Olsen and Olivier's wedding residence.

The child star could not stand living with her husband's ex-wife, and she was forced to move out. Yet, Olivier did not give Olsen the divorce she wanted despite all of this.

After her divorce was finalized, Olsen found love again in the arms of Brightware CEO John Cooper. Speculations of a relationship between the pair made the rounds after the lovebirds were spotted having dinner at Estiatorio Milos, New York City.

However, in October 2021, a source confirmed the relationship, noting that Olsen was dating again. The celebrity has asked for privacy this time, as she enjoys a whirlwind romance with the CEO.

The fashion designer's fans are happy that Olsen has found love again and are hopeful that it will last for a long time.
