Before Kenny Loggins became the poster child for "yacht rock," he was one-half of the folksy "Loggins and Messina" with Jim Messina. He has had many seasons in his career that has spanned five decades.

Kenny Loggins's "divorce" from his duo with Jim Messina after their hit-spinning six-year collaboration was not nearly as painful as his divorces from his two wives, Eva Ein and Julia. He wrote heart-wrenching albums after the respective breakups.

He became a first-time dad when Eva Ein gave birth to a son Crosby in 1980. The couple had another two children, Cody and Isabella. With Julia, he fathered two '90s babies, Lukas and Hana.

Kenny Loggins' Marriages' Influence on Career

Loggins writes in his memoir that he was in an open marriage with first wife, Eva Ein. It took the breakdown of the 12 years of marriage for the troubadour to reflect on his lifestyle. Per Deseret News, 1991's "Leap of Faith" helped him work through the divorce.

He had a deep spiritual connection with his colonic hydrotherapist, Julia Cooper. After they married, the duo collaborated on the 1997 album with a companion book, "The Unimaginable Life," that focused on his spiritual evolution.

Their 2004 divorce "blindsided" the singer, who was still dealing with the loss five years later with the record "How About Now?" according to the Las Vegas Sun. Tracks like "I Don't Want to Hate You Anymore" and "I'm a Free Man Now," helped him find peace.

"King of Soundtracks"

Loggins made his first soundtrack contribution to the 1976 Barbra Streisand remake of "A Star is Born," he wrote the music for "I Believe in Love." The Northern Express speculated that he turned down the role of aging rocker that went to Kris Kristofferson.

He penned the hit "I'm Alright" after seeing a rough cut of "Caddy "ack." Lyricist "Footloose" screenwriter Dean Pitchford turned to him for help on the number one single "Footloose" and "I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man).

Grunge notes that the most popular of his soundtrack hits, "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun," was not written by the "King of Soundtracks," as the popular media dubbed him. He was the fourth choice to voice the track after Bryan Adams, Toto, and REO Speedwagon.

Kenny Loggins Became a Grandfather

Loggins shamelessly gushed over the birth of singer-songwriter son Crosby's son with his wife, Brooke. The yacht-rocker shared the first meeting with his grandchild with an image from the hospital.

From Mary Karr's "The Art of Memoir," the newbie memoirist learned to be as honest as possible.

In the caption, he marveled at the connection he felt when looking into the newborn's little eyes. After the special moment, Crosby put his arms around his dad and said, "I love you, Pops."

Kenny Loggins' New Revealing Memoir

Loggins found escape during the lockdown in 2020 by working on a memoir. He is on good terms with his ex-wives, to the benefit of their kids, and does not want to "poison the well" with the book. He tells Parade that they had first look at their chapters:

"I showed the chapters to Eva of the stuff I wrote about my first marriage, and she changed a few things that were minor- not to her, but minor to the story. With Julia, she made some suggestions about things she was hurt by..."

In preparation for his life's long-form story, he read and listened to other rock memoirs like his friend Richard Marx, Elton John, and Peter Frampton. From Mary Karr's "The Art of Memoir," the newbie memoirist learned to be as "honest as possible."

As part of the book tour, he reunited with Messina for their 50th anniversary at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The memoirist told USA Today it would be the last time they would take the stage together.
