"The Matrix" star Keanu Reeves is much-loved by fans for his consistent humbleness. Although he is one of the wealthiest Hollywood stars, Reeves still uses the subway for transportation.

In July 2018, a die-hard fan posted a picture of the Canadian-born actor on social media, showing him reading a newspaper on a subway train.

"Keanu Reeves riding the subway," tweeted the individual. On the movie star's birthday, September 2, 2022, another fan posted a video of Reeves offering his seat on the subway to someone else.

"Happy birthday Keanu Reeves. I could've posted any amount of movie clips of Keanu being heroic in a number of films. But here he is, riding on the subway and giving up his seat for a pregnant lady. Sometimes real life is better than fiction," wrote the fan.

In June 2019, another person penned all the films Reeves has starred in, including how much he is worth to date. The Twitter user said the "John Wick" star "is still the kind of guy who will give up his seat to you while riding the NYC subway train to work."

Another social media user mentioned Reeves' net worth in March 2021, adding that he "casually takes the subway while being a great man."

While people continue to praise the award-winning star for his humanity, one person has reminded others of what he has been through in his life.

The fan shared another picture of Reeves on a subway again on December 11, 2022, and divulged that "he was abandoned by his father" as a child and had more than one father figure.

More devastating happenings in Reeves' life were highlighted in a Facebook post on December 9, 2022. He lost his longtime girlfriend, including his close friend, River Phoenix, who overdosed. Reeves also stood by his sister, who "battled leukemia."

Moreover, he is also known as one of the most generous stars in showbiz, with an estimated net worth of around $315 million. However, a longtime pal of his once revealed that he feels uncomfortable having so much money:

"He's somewhat embarrassed about that."

Another fan of Reeves tweeted on Twitter on December 8, 2022, expressing admiration for him as he remains down-to-earth as a regular individual despite his celebrity status.

Meanwhile, on December 10, 2021, people commended Reeves for being humble, with one person writing: "Keanu is the real deal." Another wished blessings upon his life, penning, "You shall reap the rewards of your compassion and kindness." While a third person wrote that they had the opportunity to cross paths with the A-lister and they talked about "horses," adding discovered that he "is a great human being."

Another lucky fan who had the privilege of meeting Reeves was "a young boy" at an airport. TV producer Andrew Kimmel revealed on Twitter on July 5, 2022, that Reeves was on the same flight as him when he got approached by the young fan "at baggage."

He asked for the "Constantine" star's "autograph," followed by a series of questions, and Reeves was happy to answer all of them. The boy asked his reason for the London trip, and Reeves replied that he was shooting "a documentary." The fan stated he saw him at the "Grand Pix" and asked if he drove. The star revealed that he does not mainly drive "F1" but enjoys "riding motorcycles."

Reeves' Childhood & Hardships

Reeves was born in 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon, to Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr. and Patricia Taylor. He is of Chinese-Hawaiian and English descent.

His father was arrested for drug dealing and left him when he was young. From there on, young Reeves' life saw him being raised by three different stepfathers as his mother remarried numerous times, and they relocated from Sydney to New York and, finally, Toronto.

In the late '90's Reeves and his lover, Jennifer Syme, welcomed a daughter named Ava, who was sadly stillborn. Another tragedy struck two years later when Syme died in a car accident.

In 1991, Reeves' sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia (a type of blood cancer). It was during a time when his acting career was taking shape, but he decided to prioritize Kim's health and became her primary caregiver.

The "Speed" star put his career on hold and sold his house to move closer to his sibling. He cooked her meals, cleaned her home, and prepped her medication on her behalf. The loving brother once said:

"She was always there for me, you know. I will always be there for her."

Following ten years of treatment, Kim ultimately fought off the disease, and it went into remission. Her experience inspired her brother to donate to those fighting cancer.

Money Doesn't Matter to Reeves

Giving money away is part of Reeves's lifestyle. He, instead, prioritizes "good health" over anything else that screams Hollywood life. In June 2014, the "Point Break" star said having millions of dollars in the bank means nothing to him:

"Money doesn't mean anything to me. I've made a lot of money, but I want to enjoy life and not stress myself building my bank account. I give lots away and live simply."

A family friend echoed his sentiments, adding Reeves has "done a lot more for people than most will ever know." The insider noted "The Lake House" star is aware of how fortunate he is and is grateful.

Reeves also prefers doing good deeds anonymously. He started a cancer fund to help kids but has avoided revealing himself as the funder so he can do it quietly.

In 2009, the acclaimed star disclosed that he has "a private foundation" that has been operating for years, and it assists with aid to kids' hospitals "and cancer research," adding:

"I don't like to attach my name to it. I just let the foundation do what it does."

Additionally, Reeves lives off the radar. He does not have a social media presence, hardly attends A-list events, does not own many homes, and chooses to ride the subway whenever he can.

Suppose his flight makes an emergency landing. In that case, he decides to go on an adventure instead of ordering a vehicle to come and pick him up, leaving behind economy-class passengers.
