Tall, dark, and handsome as a movie star, Luis Miguel is a gifted singer and international star. Born in 1970 in Puerto Rico to a Spanish father and an Italian mother, Miguel won his first Grammy at 14 for a duet with British singer Sheena Easton.
But his road to stardom was not easy. His father, the singer/ songwriter Luisito Rei, made his son into a child star and himself into his manager. He was a harsh and demanding taskmaster.
Miguel's mother, Marcela Basteri, disappeared mysteriously in 1986 when Miguel was 16. Despite his charismatic stage persona, Miguel is known to be introverted, almost reclusive, and rarely gives interviews.
Over the years, he has been romantically linked to many women, including Brigitte Nielsen, Sofía Vergara, Daisy Fuentes, and Myrka Dellanos. Three women have been closer to Miguel than others, and two bore his children.

Luis Miguel Dated Mariah Carey: Two Singers Were Together from 1998 to 2001
One of Luis Miguel's best know romances was with diva Mariah Carey. Carey met Miguel in 1998 in Aspen while the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" was in the process of divorcing Tony Mottola.
Miguel overwhelmed Carey with romantic gestures, sending her extravagant gifts and filling a private jet with roses. The two were inseparable over the next three years, but there was a dark side to the passionate Latin lover, Carey revealed:
"He'd been through a lot and lost his mother at a very young age. From what I'd been told, his father was very difficult and controlling. (...) At his best Luis was generous, spontaneous and passionate, but at his worst he was erratic and anxious and had a dark cloud hanging over his head."
Carey and Miguel split up, and the "Fantasy" singer went on to marry rapper and actor Nick Cannon with whom she welcomed two children. Miguel, too, moved on and fathered two children.

"The doors are open to him. He can see them whenever he wants. I think we both want what's best for the children. I see my children every day, constantly, and I wish he had a closer relationship with the children."
