Is Stephanie Hsu Queer? All We Know about the Actress's Sexuality and Dating Life
Stephanie Hsu's career in Hollywood has been on a fruitful patch lately. Hsu's rise to fame has attracted much more attention from fans, including her romantic relationships. It is believed that the actress is queer.
Arguably, her big break came in 2019 when she was cast as Mei in Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." She appeared in 13 episodes up to 2022, the same year she worked on her biggest project yet, "Everything Everywhere All at Once," resulting in her first Oscar nomination.
Although Hsu has largely been romantically linked to people of the opposite sex, there have been hints of her being part of the LGBTQ+ community. The suggestions arose from her inclusion in a list celebrating LGBTQ+ rising stars and her interview in which she alluded to living as an Asian gay person.
Is Stephanie Hsu Queer?
The idea that Hsu is a member of the LGBTQ+ community first gained traction after she spoke about her characters in the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once." In the movie, she plays the roles of Joy Wang and Jobu Topaki, whose mother, played by Michelle Yeoh, fails to accept her daughter's sexuality.
During the interview, Hsu mentioned that she had grown up in a similar situation to what her characters in the film went through, saying, "When I read the script, a queer love story felt so obvious, an Asian family is so obvious because that's also my life." Therefore, her utterances contributed to the suspicion that she was queer.
A few months later, the speculation grew louder and was seemingly confirmed when the emerging actress was included in an Oscars' publication of 15 LGBTQ+ actors and filmmakers whose careers are on the rise. Hence, it seems she is indeed a member of the LGBTQ+ community, although she is yet to address it specifically.
Is Stephanie Hsu Dating Anyone?
Details about Hsu's romantic relationship remain a well-guarded secret. The actress prefers to keep fans guessing. However, questions have been asked about some of her interactions with fellow entertainers, including singer Britton Smith and actor Allan K. Washington.
In June 2022, Hsu posted a couple of photos dedicated to Smith. At first, she called him her girlfriend and later said she had so much love for him while revealing how he helped her overcome a heartbreak. She also praised his music's powerful and meaningful words in that post.
Through one of those well-crafted songs, Smith revealed that he is gay, thereby casting doubt on his being in a relationship with Hsu. However, the rumors did not end there for the actress, who was also linked to fellow actor Allan K. Washington with whom she went to the Oscars as her date.
The pair were stunning together as they took pictures with other guests, including Jonathan Majors. Nevertheless, as with Smith, it is not certain whether they are together despite Hsu calling him her wife and apologizing for missing his call. Washington is a small-time actor with five productions to date.
