Awkwafina is a veteran of over 35 films as an actress, including appearances in popular films such as "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and the recently released, "Renfield." She also has two credits as a writer, two as a producer, and four on the soundtrack.

Her popularity has meant that her personal life has also been thrust into the spotlight. However, she keeps details about her romantic life close to her chest, discussing some of her dating past without giving any names or timelines.

Awkwafina Doesn't Speak about Her Sexual Orientation

The question of Awkwafina's sexuality has been in the public sphere for years. In November 2017, Space Cowboy was wondering about it when they tweeted, "No. Is [A]wkwafina for real gay? Cause I love a woke queen."

The following year, Awkwafina portrayed the supposedly lesbian character in the film, "Crazy Rich Asians," starring Michelle Yeoh and Constance Wu, brewing more rumors about her being gay.

In January 2022, Mica asked, "Can anyone confirm if Awkwafina is gay cus if so, I'm literally leaving my bf rn and going on an epic quest to find love w her (sic)."

As it stands, there have never been any solid hints at the comedian being lesbian. Awkwafina has never responded to the speculation about her sexuality. In fact, she has been involved with several men in the past.

In 2018, Awkwafina spoke about being in a settled relationship with her boyfriend during an interview with The Guardian about her appearance in the star-studded "Oceans 8" alongside Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and Cate Blanchett.

She was quoted saying, "I'm extremely happy. I'm in love." However, the actress pointed out that even though she was in a relationship, she doesn't feel like she could be the kind of person who can exclusively focus on her family, saying, "I'm not sure I will ever be the kind of woman who can retire into a family."

Awkwafina Has Many Funny Stories about Dating

Despite the mystery surrounding her love life, Awkwafina has been active in the dating pool for quite some time. She recalled some of her dating stories in a video released by Vogue on their YouTube channel in August 2018.

She began by pointing out that she is an independent woman. Growing up, she never felt like a typical girl, especially when comparing herself to regular Asian girls "who always looked so good in the passenger's seat of an Acura Integra." Awkwafina liked to yell like pigeons.

The actress soon realized what she believed was an ideal girlfriend, and Awkwafina felt like she didn't fit that bill. Fresh out of college and all her friends having boyfriends, the comedian decided to taste the waters and prove to herself that she could have one.

One of her friends set her up on a blind date with a guy that was physically her type, and she liked a lot about him. However, when they got to the date, he ordered one steak for both and wanted it well done, which Awkwafina disagreed with. And things got even weirder when the meal was delivered, and he cut it into small baby pieces.

For the star, that was the first red flag, and from that point, the date became boring. Their conversations were about libertarianism and the Chinese market, which made Awkwafina pretend in the hope that it would seem bright. Luckily for the guy, their time together didn't end that night.

After a while of seeing each other, Awkwafina decided to introduce him to the rest of her friends. With her friends, her pretentious intellectual side goes out the window, and she wears her funny cap. On that occasion, she cracked jokes with her friends, including cousin Vinny.

However, her date didn't seem impressed by the real her, and she began thinking, what was she doing with someone who doesn't appreciate the real her? That was the last time the pair were together, and they just mutually broke up without telling each other it was over.
