Tall as Mom Suri Cruise Spotted Looking ‘Sad’ Shortly after Turning 17 — She Hasn’t Spent Birthday with Dad in Years
- Suri Cruise appeared in public after her birthday.
- The teenage girl celebrated another birthday without her father present.
- Suri Cruise has lived most of her life without her dad, mainly being supported by her mother.
Katie Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise, were recently spotted in public as they made their way through a Los Angeles airport, suitcases in tow. The mother and her 17-year-old daughter looked comfortable in sweatpants, with Holmes sporting a green sweater, an orange cap, black Adidas sneakers, and a bag over her shoulder.
Suri went for lighter colors but chose black high-top sneakers. She wore a grey hoodie and wore her hair in two braids hanging over her shoulders. She also wheeled a pink suitcase with her as she strutted beside her mom with a white bag slung on one shoulder. The two were presumably going back to New York.
The sighting comes shortly after Suri celebrated her 17th birthday. Reports have indicated that young Suri and her dad, Tom Cruise, have been estranged ever since the "Top Gun" star and Holmes divorced, and it would appear Suri hasn't spent her birthday with her father for over a decade.
Sources have repeatedly confirmed that Cruise is keeping his distance from his daughter.
Many people reacted to the images of Suri and her mom walking through the airport and commented on how dejected the teen looked. One Facebook user noted, "the two of them always look so sad (sic)." Other users commented on their looks, writing, "She is beautiful like her mom!"
One Facebook user noted how similar the mother-daughter duo appeared, commenting, "She looks like mom so much nothing looks like Tom (sic)." Suri was even almost exactly as tall as her mom, making the similarities between them even more striking. Apparently, Suri got her height from her mom, since Cruise is two inches shorter than his ex.
Why Did Suri Celebrate Her Birthday without Her Father Again?
Reports have suggested that Cruise is keeping his distance from his daughter, cutting ties with Suri after his divorce from Holmes was settled in 2011. The famous father has refused to see his daughter ever since, seemingly by choice.
Despite the fact that Suri's dad has entirely removed himself from her life, the teenage girl has ample support from her mother.
It was also reported that the star confessed to having distanced himself from his daughter in a court of law, saying he had not seen Suri for a total of three months after splitting from Holmes. He also admitted that Holmes had decided to leave him in order to keep Suri from falling into the hands of the Church of Scientology.

When further prodded about his relationship with the Church of Scientology, the actor confessed that he chooses not to engage with his former wife and estranged child because of his beliefs. According to Scientology, Holmes and her daughter are nonbelievers, which means Cruise is not allowed to have contact with them.
A source close to the family reportedly told Page Six, "This is his loss, his issue, his problem. He must be really brainwashed."
Cruise's family aren't the only ones who have grievances with Scientology and the way it treats its members. Former member of the Church and "King of Queens" star, Leah Remini, has been an avid advocate against the Church.
The actress, who used to be part of Scientology, has taken a firm stand against it, claiming the Church mistreats its followers, and even implied that Cruise turns a blind eye to injustices. Rimini also speculated that Cruise plans to reconnect with his daughter when she's older, possibly bringing her back into the Scientology fold without Holmes' interference.

Despite Rimini's numerous claims of injustices, the Church of Scientology maintains that the actress is merely trying to be subversive. A representative of the Church claimed that Rimini hopes to bring down the Church's reputation by spreading what they deemed false information, and even claimed her words had harmed their members.
How Has Suri Cruise Lived All These Years without Her Father?
Despite the fact that Suri's dad has entirely removed himself from her life, the teenage girl has ample support from her mother. Holmes does her best to provide her daughter with a stable, relatively normal life. The actress has publicly stated that Suri's development and well-being are her highest priorities.
Holmes also shared that she adores working with her daughter.
Holmes chose to raise her daughter in New York City, away from her husband and the Church of Scientology. Here, Suri has been seen, on a few occasions, casually strolling through the streets and spending time with a small group of friends. She has also been spotted spending quality time with her mother.

Besides having a regular childhood with her mom in New York, Suri has also started to flex her creative muscles. Even before she turned 17, her name had already appeared at the end of her mother's films, which include "Rare Objects" and "Alone Together," as a dedication.
Suri also had the chance to show off her vocal talents. At the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, she stunned the crowd by singing "Blue Moon" at the start of her mother's film, "Alone Together." When asked why Holmes chose Suri for the role, she responded that her daughter had immense talent and she wanted to find the best person for the job — which turned out to be Suri. Holmes remarked:
"She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it and I let her do her thing. I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her."

Holmes also shared that she adores working with her daughter. She noted that she would always have a role for Suri in her film, and she hopes Suri will always be willing to work with her mother. But despite the young woman's prominent place in the public eye, Holmes tries her best to give her a life away from the limelight.
The actress confessed that she wants to protect Suri from a public childhood, especially since Suri has been in the news since she was a baby. Holmes shared, "What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her."
