Through the years, Jack Black has made a name for himself as a musician, comedian, and actor. He's best known for his roles in "School of Rock," "King Kong," and "Jumanji," to name a few.

Having been so focused on his career, Black thought at one point in his life that marriage was not for him. His parents' divorce did not help matters, as he didn't ever want to be in the same situation.

Despite being around many elementary school children when filming "School of Rock," Black still did not have marriage or children on his mind. The actor wasn't even sure he could work with kids in the movie! However, after reading the script with the entire cast, he realized it was magical and that the film would work.

Black's perspective on children and marriage all changed when he met one of his "King Kong" co-stars' —Andy Serkis — wife and kids.

Serkis made him read a bedtime story to his children, and the rest was history. "I thought: 'Oh, I should have a kid. I want to have a family,'" he admitted.

Since that experience, Black realized there was a feeling of emptiness he constantly felt. Around that time, he mustered up the courage to court Tanya Haden, a singer, cellist, and actress whom he knew from school two decades prior. Interestingly enough, the two were never friends back in school, but life had other plans, and they ended up getting married. Speaking about his wife, he said:

"I didn't date Tanya or talk to her or anything in high school. I was pretty shy. I just watched her from afar. We only started dating like 20 years after high school."

It took Black years to muster up the courage to ask Haden out, even if he admitted she was always in the back of his mind. After a year of dating, they got married in 2006 in Big Sur, California. They welcomed two children together, Thomas David Black and Samuel Jason Black.

He admitted to being somewhat like a "helicopter dad," keeping a close eye on his two sons and making sure they were always safe.

When asked what makes his marriage work, his answer was simple: "I love her!" Through the years, Black admitted to always trying to find the exit whenever he had flings with women. With Tanya, he never felt the need to escape.

He's equally devoted to his two children, whom his schedule now revolves around. In fact, he won't even accept a New York-based Broadway show or any other long-term project if it meant his boys needed to move away from home.

The actor's worst fear is losing a loved one, so he tries his best to keep that from happening by protecting his children from scenarios that could put them in harm's way.

Black's first son, Samuel Jason Black, was born in June 2006. Like many other celebrities, the "School of Rock" star tried to keep his son away from the spotlight as much as possible.

However, in more recent interviews, Black has slowly started opening up about his son, especially his artistic abilities. One time, Samuel asked his father if he could make a movie about the Hollywood adventures he's been on. "I won't say it's you," his son cleverly added.

Thomas David Black, his second child, was born in May 2008. Like his older brother, Thomas inherited his parents' artistic abilities and often makes movies on his phone.

Aside from movie making, Thomas is also a martial arts student who is passionate about the sport. He even practices his moves on his dad, with their sparring sessions getting serious at times.

"I had to have a sit down with him and say, 'You can use your powers of martial arts only when your life is in danger; you can't do this against normal people,'" the actor revealed.

Jack Black's Sons Shy Away from Him

Although being a helicopter parent worked for the "Jumanji" actor when his kids were little, it's getting a lot more difficult now that they're teenagers. He doesn't like forcing things on his kids and would rather guide them in the right direction instead.

Black is one of the world's funniest – however, to his kids, that isn't always the truth. In fact, like many other teenagers to their parents, Black humorously revealed that his kids "want to get as far away from me as possible."

Having grown up the same way, Black understands that it's natural for his boys to feel this way. He says it's just "part of the leaving-the-nest instinct."

The famous actor also doesn't force his own films on his kids, saying they'll likely discover them in the future should they want to. For now, he's content with his children figuring out their own lives and doing their own things.

Even when they're older, Black doesn't plan on imposing their next steps. While he's unsure if his children will one day follow in his footsteps, he knows that they love to sing and dance as he and his wife do.

Despite their musical talents, Black says his children will be free to be their own persons when they're older. He assured the public that he will not be pressuring his children to pursue careers in the entertainment industry unless that's what they want to do.

Recently, the "Goosebumps" actor was spotted out with Samuel in Los Angeles. Their striking resemblance didn't go unnoticed, and fans couldn't help but comment about their similarities online.

A photo captured Black and his eldest son walking the streets together, side by side. Black wore a red top, a multi-colored pair of shorts, mid-cut socks, and a pair of sneakers for their outing. He also carried a backpack and accessorized his look with a green and yellow beanie and sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Samuel walked alongside his dad, sporting the same curly hair that Black's fans are accustomed to. He and his dad sported the same beard (save for Black's gray hair), and they appeared to also be the same height.

Fans were delighted to see the pair together, especially since not much is heard from Black's kids other than through the interviews the proud dad gives occasionally. Their rare outing gave fans a glimpse of how Black's family has grown through the years.

"Man straight cloned himself, and I love that for them," a fan wrote on Twitter. "Holy crap! They're totally twins!" another commented.

Jack Black as a Father

Black grew up with parents who worked together as satellite engineers on the Hubble Space Telescope and separated when the actor was only 10 years old.

They were always arguing a lot at home, and that was something Black didn't appreciate growing up. He wanted a more peaceful place, and that's something he wants to provide for his own children.

Black didn't take his parents' divorce well and even blamed himself, thinking something about him made them stop wanting to live together.

Despite feeling this way, there was no doubt in his mind that he was loved. He still had a good childhood, and his parents were always supportive of his dreams. In fact, his parents never missed any of his school plays.

Now that he is a dad himself, Black wants to try his best to be a good father to his children. While he hasn't read any parenting books, he said his goal is to always stay honest with his children in hopes that his honesty teaches them something.

In a home with three boys living together, things can get pretty competitive. This is the same for the Black household, where the actor sometimes gets into power struggles with his children.

An example he once gave is when he and his oldest son would listen to music. They would play games in which his son would have to claim his turn. The entire time, Black would be "hogging the mic," admitting that he liked to always be in control.

Black loves being a dad. However, he recently acknowledged how difficult it has been to spend quality time with his children now that they are teenagers. His sons no longer want to do kid stuff and constantly tell their dad that they aren't kids anymore.

When Black reminds his teenage boys that they are still his children and they can still go to Disneyland together, his kids refuse to listen. "No! It's not cool anymore," they reply.

Regardless of how his kids are nowadays, Black knows that this is part of growing up. He's willing to go through this season of growth with his children, no matter what that entails.
