Michael Douglas and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, held a united front in support of their daughter Carys' debut at the Cannes Film Festival.

Douglas kept it classic with a black tuxedo, but his two dates made a fashion statement. His 20-year-old daughter wore a lace gown with a low neckline, an open back, and delicate lace finishes. She kept her hair in a neat bun to allow the dress to shine and accessorized with long jeweled earnings.

On the other hand, her mother brought more color to the carpet. She stunned with a plunging red gown with a cape only covering one shoulder. She kept her brunette hair down and her jewelry minimal with dangling earrings and statement rings.

This was also a special night for Douglas as he was being presented with an honorary award celebrating his phenomenal career. The festival also screened the unreleased documentary about his life, "Michael Douglas, The Prodigal Son."

Douglas walked with both his girls in his arms. Notably, Carys' brothers Dylan and the actor's eldest son Cameron, whom he had during his first marriage with Diandra Luker, were absent.

Although Zeta-Jones' outfit screamed all things sexy and elegant, it received mixed reviews on social media. Fans thought Carys, an aspiring musician, looked terrific but felt her mother was too old for her plunging neckline.

Away from her criticism-invoking fashion choice, the "Wednesday" star and her husband were one of those Hollywood couples that people thought wouldn't last. Ironically, the doubt did not only come from the public but from them too.

Michael's Pickup Line Almost Went Wrong

Douglas and Zeta-Jones met at the Deauville Film Festival in 1998. The "Ant-Man" star had already spotted the actress and knew she would not be at the festival long, so he talked to his publicist to arrange for them to have drinks after work, and shocking for Douglas, Zeta-Jones showed up.

After 30 minutes of speaking, Douglas played a move that almost ruined it for the actress. He looked her in the eyes and said, "You know, I am going to be the father of your children."

That statement was the actress's cue to leave; she responded, "You know, I have heard a lot about you, and I have seen a lot about you, and I think it is time to say goodnight."

Douglas was sure he had blown it, but he quickly organized for roses attached to an apology note to be delivered to her next destination. The romantic gesture improved things, and his quick wit saved the day. After two years of dating, the couple married in 2000 and welcomed two children, Carys and Dylan.

While on "Good Morning America," Zeta-Jones was asked who was the best gift giver between her and Douglas, and she admitted to only getting good at it until the eighth year of their marriage.

In her defense, the actress confessed that she did not think their marriage would last that long, so she had used up her gift-giving skills until she realized they were in it for the long run.

The two have been married for over two decades, but the road has been challenging, especially as high-profile Hollywood stars. Even fans were skeptical the couple would make it this far, but Douglas and his wife have beaten the odds.

Michael and Catherine's Short Split

In 2013, the couple hit a bump in their marriage and decided to separate. Their representatives stated, "Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage. There will be no further comment."

Nonetheless, they found their way back to each other. Douglas appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and spoke about the temporary split.

The actor admitted that the pressure of Hollywood got to them, but just like most couples, they had a few problems they needed to attend to.

However, it took both of them working on their relationship for it to be stronger than ever. Their deep love for one another also made it easy to better their union.

Despite their 25-year gap, the couple shares much in common, including their birthday. They love spending time walking around the golf course, and the age difference has never been a problem.

In fact, when people would tell Zeta-Jones that by the time she hit 50, Douglas would be 75, she would simply say, 'Well, that is just maths."

Douglas and his wife have had ups and downs like most couples, but they stayed dedicated to their union and have been happily married for 23 years.
