Harris Dickinson has notably played gay characters in his previous films, which brought his sexuality into question and called him into conversations about modern masculinity. The actor, who is dating a woman, said he was comfortable with his sexuality.

English native Harris Dickinson drew his first breath in Leytonstone, Essex, on June 24, 1996. He developed a passion for the arts as a child and attended Raw Academy in London, where he honed his skills.

He entered the TV and film industry in 2014, making his first onscreen appearance in the movie short "Battle Lines." That year, he landed a minor role in the British comedy series "Some Girls."

He returned to screens in 2016, starring in the drama thriller "Home." Another small part followed in the longtime mystery series "Silent Witness," before winning his breakout role in "Beach Rats," where he plays the gay teen Frankie.

The award-winning film earned Dickinson much recognition, and the following year, he played another gay character, Jim, in "Postcards from London." Fans may also recognize Dickinson from "The Darkest Minds," co-starring Amandla Stenberg and Gwendoline Christie.

He also starred as Prince Philip in "Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil," alongside Angelina Jolie, Ella Fanning, and Imelda Staunton. The 27-year-old has spoken candidly about his queer roles, which helped him feel more comfortable in his body and with his sexuality.

Harris Dickinson on Playing Frankie in 'Beach Rats'

"Beach Rats" follows the story of young Frankie in Brooklyn, New York, who is introduced to the world of drugs and only seeks sexual intimacy with older men. Speaking about shooting the film, Dickinson said it was "a new experience," but he was comfortable doing it.

"I'm comfortable in my sexuality and body now," he shared during a 2017 interview. The actor had come to terms with the fact that he was baring himself onscreen, and it was something that would "exist forever."

Still, he cared enough about the character that he "just wanted to throw" himself into it. The young star grew up surrounded by people who encouraged his self-expression, no matter how it looked. The people who inspired him were those who showed qualities that surpassed gender roles.

Harry Dickinson on Playing Jim in 'Postcards from London'

"Postcards from London" follows Jim, a young self-assured gay man who joins The Raconteurs, a company of gay sex workers whose services come with an unusual specialty — "post-coital intellectual conversations."

Unlike his previous character, Frankie, Dickinson noted that Jim's sexuality was not a question. Jim is well aware of his sexual preferences, but that's not where his journey lies in "Postcards from London."

"A part of his journey is desire and lust for knowledge, and expansion and self-identity," Dickinson enlightened. As a straight man who has played queer roles, the actor understands that he is responsible for portraying each character correctly by staying true to what they represent.

Harry Dickinson's Girlfriend: The Hollywood Star Keeps His Romance with Rose Gray Relatively Private

It's unknown how long Dickinson and Rose Gray have been together, but the actor has briefly mentioned her in interviews. The couple lives together in London, where they have a garden and a cat named Misty Blue.

According to her Spotify profile, Gray officially broke into the music industry in the late 2010s. In 2019, she collaborated with her beau in creating the film for her then-new song "high again." Still, the two rarely appear on each other's socials. Gray's Instagram content, as is Dickinson's, is primarily work-related.
