JoAnna revealed in a June 2015 interview that she and Nick crossed paths in New York after being set up by a mutual friend. He had heard about her move to the city to film "Gossip Girl." Nick had just been traded to play for the Yankees then.

She told the friend to give him her contact, saying she would introduce him to all her other friends. "I was never thinking about dating him," the television star admitted. The actress was already seeing someone else, but things fizzled out.

JoAnna eventually met the sports star three days later. Nick had invited her to a baseball game for their first date, where his team played against the Mets. They first laid eyes on each other outside the hall.

After the game, they drove back to his apartment, where they had cocktails and talked for hours until very early in the morning. The actress, best known for starring in "Are You Afraid of The Dark?" was smitten by Nick that evening, saying:

"I was so impressed by him. He was super humble, but he also had this cocky flair about him, which I really love."

After they officially started dating, Nick expressed his feelings to JoAnna the second week later, telling her she was the only person he was dating because he wanted no one else. "He was just so certain of what he wanted, and he was going to be the man that I want to be married to," she recalled.

She was taken by Nick's consistency and willingness to prove himself to her. He told her he did not want her to think he was "some stereotypical athlete" and was forthright about that. In a February 2018 interview, she recounted him saying, "I'm only going to be dating you, and you are the only one, and until you believe that, I'll be here reminding you of that," which won her over.

JoAnna divulged that Nick proposed ten months after they started dating. The lovebirds wed in December 2010 in front of friends and family. They had their reception at the Breakers Hotel & Resort in Palm Beach.

The couple's wedding guests included the bride's co-star, Cameron Diaz, and the groom's Yankees teammates, Alex Rodriguez and Johnny Damon. Reba McIntire, who served as a bridesmaid with Melissa Peterman, and Lance Bass were also there.

JoAnna commemorated their wedding anniversary in December 2022. She posted a clip of them having a moment on Instagram and captioned it:

"12 years of building the most beautiful life together. Cheers to my forever date, @yourboyswish. I love you so much, Nick."

The actress once opened up about the duo's sex life when she appeared on Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live" in July 2015, sharing they were having intercourse frequently. "We have a good situation," said JoAnna.

JoAnna and Nick welcomed their first daughter, Emerson Jay Swisher, on May 21, 2013, in Cleveland, Ohio. The new mom said she never imagined having a girl child, which excited her.

The showbiz star's husband later revealed in February 2016 that they were expecting another child. "Jo, Emme & I are so excited to finally share this news!" the athlete wrote on Instagram alongside a snap of the family collage, including one shot showing their firstborn inside a crib with a big note that read, "Eviction Notice."

He and his wife later revealed they were having another girl child and expressed their excitement about expanding their family of three to four. Nick and JoAnna's second daughter, Sailor Stevie Swisher, was born on June 26, 2016.

The proud mom announced the news on Instagram, along with a photo of the couple and their infant child at the hospital. In the caption, she wrote that their little one had made their family feel "complete." JoAnna shared in an interview that seeing her eldest child meet her little sister for the first time was heartwarming.

Nick, a Web Series Champion, former Major League Baseball All-Star, and studio analyst, celebrated his wife in May 2022 on Mother's Day and called her "one of the greatest Moms ever created!" alongside a family portrait. He again paid tribute to his wife and kids on Valentine's Day in February 2023, expressing his love for them.

Nick marked the couple's first child Emerson's tenth birthday months later in May. He said he was "proud" of his daughter and remarked on her personality, revealing her to be kind-hearted and curious. He was grateful for his daughter as she had brought so much joy and happiness into their lives.

The following month, Nick shared a photo of him, his wife, and kids smiling on a boat in the United Kingdom. Late in June, he paid a birthday tribute to his youngest daughter Sailor writing she is "the coolest 7 year old I know!"
