The 'River Wild' Reimagined
"River Wild" might ring a bell for some fans, as it's a reboot of the 1994 movie "The River Wild" that originally featured Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, and David Strathairn.
Leighton Meester leads the 2023 film, along with Taran Killam and Adam Brody. Meester and Killam star as siblings Joey Reese and Gray Reese, respectively. Brody joins the mix as Trevor, an avid adventure thriller and the long-time pal of the Reese siblings.
Meester is iconic for the series "Gossip Girl" with Blake Lively, while Killam gained fame in the TV show "How I Met Your Mother" with Cobie Smulders. Brody is best known for the drama "The O.C." opposite Rachel Bilson.
Meester recently opened up about filming "River Wild" in varying outdoor conditions, from scorching heat to icy cold waters.

Besides Meester, Killam, and Brody, the adventure-packed and rated PG-13 film, features a supporting cast including Courtney Chen, Eve Conolly, Olivia Swann, Matt Devere, and Kiel Kennedy.
The film takes its viewers to follow the Reese siblings as they set off on a whitewater rafting adventure alongside a small, diverse group. Unexpectedly, Trevor, who has struggled with a challenging history, joins the siblings on this journey.
What was supposed to be an exciting adventure for the Reeses and the group quickly turns into a frightening experience. They find themselves fighting for their lives while navigating turbulent waters on their raft.

Leighton Meester on Navigating Fluctuating Weather Conditions & Emotions
Meester recently opened up about filming "River Wild" in varying outdoor conditions, from scorching heat to icy cold waters. Beyond these weather challenges, she also pointed out another factor to the overall difficulties:
"The emotional process was challenging as well, but having my partner, and one of my dearest friends as the cast with whom I'd share these experiences made every moment enjoyable and put me at ease."

Meester, who has been married to Brody since 2014, recalled telling her husband about the potential discomfort of bringing the intense emotions from the film home but ultimately found the experience strangely natural.
She attributed her and Brody's comfort to their strong trust and intimacy. This close bond let them navigate their personal boundaries seamlessly and provided a strong sense of safety throughout the filming process.
The Movie Took Its Cameras Far from American Waters
Instead of its original plan to shoot "River Wild" in Idaho, U.S.A, the movie changed course and decided to film portions in Central and Eastern Europe during the summer of 2022.
The first film location was Hungary, though the specific scenes captured there remain unclear. Nevertheless, it was reported that the film crew may have used the Danube, Europe's second-longest river flowing through the country, for some whitewater rafting sequences.
Slovakia was the second destination. While limited information exists about why the production team selected this country, it appears that they chose this due to the convenience of traveling between Hungary and Slovakia, with Slovakia situated just north of Hungary.
The third filming location was Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nestled within the Balkan region, this country is positioned just south of Hungary and Slovakia, with Croatia situated between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
