Daniel's Reflections on His Korean Heritage

Daniel grew up in Michigan, known for its predominantly white community. It was also an environment where he and his mother often felt like "outliers" due to their Korean heritage. He thought he and his mom were unprepared to live in a foreign place. Over time, his mom eventually yearned to connect with someone like them.

When Henny was 14, his mother began searching for her roots, which also made him start reconnecting with his identity. He has also faced a common challenge among Asian Americans, frequently grappling with whether he is Asian or American enough.

At 20, Daniel moved to Asia, and he believed it was the perfect time for him to move as his Korean mind had opened up in his teenage years. He recalled:

"I had this formative period as a young man when I was old enough to process and make choices within my world and my culture. I was wide open for the experience mentally."

He initially pursued modeling before transitioning to television acting in South Korea. It was a challenging experience for him, as he had to depend on personal connections since there were no social media platforms for self-promotion.

Fortunately, one of Daniel's contacts reached out to him for a commercial shoot, and this colleague introduced him to the casting directors of the TV drama, "My Lovely Sam-soon," which forever changed his career.

The actor is one of the many notable Asian-American stars today, joining the ranks of Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Conrad Ricamora, and Ken Jeong.

When his career soared to new heights, it led him to collaborate with many prestigious brands, including those in the luxury watch industry. During this time, the brand created a watch with his signature behind it, and he even gave one to his father.
