Green & Burgess Dish on Their ‘Intimate’ Proposal
Green and Burgess confirmed their engagement on their "iHeart Radio" podcast "Old-ish," which they co-host with former actor Randy Spelling. Spelling asked them whether they were engaged, and Burgess answered:
"We've been engaged for two months."
Brian chimed in and revealed that he proposed to his love on his 50th birthday celebration on July 15, 2023. Burgess recalled that Green's son, Noah, was holding his half-brother Zane while Journey held on to a little red Cartier box while standing beside their father. The family patriarch took the box from his son Journey, opened it up to Burgess, and said:
"Would you spend the rest of your life with us?"
She found herself looking at Green, stunned by the surprise. Burgess said she did not expect the proposal but knew that Green would eventually propose one day, as they had discussed marriage. However, she never expected he would ask her to marry him on his 50th birthday.
Either way, she said yes, put the ring on her finger, and embraced her now-fiancé and their kids. The ballroom dancer described the proposal as "The most perfect beautiful moment because it was us. It was our unit. It was our tribe."
Burgess admitted she loved how Green proposed and gushed about her engagement ring, saying it is "gorgeous." Meanwhile, her love revealed only his son Noah knew when he would pop the question, adding his other children were aware of the proposal, too, just not when it would be.
The doting father further divulged that he wanted his now-fiancée to share the same last name as him and the kids. Burgess expressed what that means to her: "[...] That means the world to me, too, because I do want the same last name as my babies. […] It makes me so happy."
It took months for the pair to reveal the news because they were pondering how to go about it. However, the couple eventually decided to enjoy the moment privately and let it come naturally. The video on Instagram was their way of making the announcement.
How Did the Couple Meet? Inside Their Relationship & Family Life
Green and Burgess crossed paths in late October 2020 at a coffee shop. They went out on several dates until COVID-19 lockdown hit, and they quarantined together. In a June 2021 interview, Burgess expressed:
"I was grateful for that because it allowed us to really take our time and it was really awesome."
The couple shares a son, Zane, whom they welcomed in June 2022. They spoke candidly about parenthood during an interview on "Good Morning America" in August 2022, and Green admitted:
"I love being a parent."
As for Burgess, she said that she is "in love" with being a first-time mom. While Zane is her first child, he is her partner Green's fifth child.
The former child star became a first-time dad when he welcomed his oldest son, Kassius, 21, with his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Marcil. He later had three more sons with his former wife, Megan Fox: Noah, 10, Bodhi, 9, and Journey, 7.
Green and Burgess have also openly discussed their traditions as a blended family, such as sitting down together for family dinners often prepared by the family's matriarch.
The family of seven also has a "gratitude practice" every time they eat together, where they say what they are grateful for. As for their blossoming romance, 38-year-old Burgess divulged that transparency and communication are the keys to a successful relationship.
