On what would have been her 77th birthday, her son Bruce shared a sweet tribute to his beloved mother. He praised her for being fearless and for the iconic entertainer she was. Although the world loved her for her talents, Bruce expressed that he knew her as "just mom," and would forever be grateful to have been the only person to call her that.

Bruce thanked his mother for her unconditional love, "Growing up, it was us against the world. And then she took the world by storm," he wrote. The son also knew that his mother was fighting an aggressive cancer, but no matter how prepared he felt, her death still came too soon.

If it were up to him, Bruce would have wanted to have had more than 57 years with his mother, but as she rests, he will hold on to the lessons she left him with. He wrote,

"Mom, you left me with all the tools, though I'll still need your guiding spirit around me. I feel you and know you are there. But I will miss your sweet hand and caring eyes that would look deep into my soul for verification that everything was okay."

Suzanne was proud of her blended family and was especially ecstatic about becoming a grandma. For her, the best part about having grandchildren was the unconditional love. "Kids don't know the blood," she said.

Therefore, one can only imagine how distraught the grandchildren were to lose their "Zannie." Her granddaughter Camila kept her tribute short and wrote, "I love you forever, Zannie, my different kind of grandma."

Bruce's daughter Violet also shared a written post titled, "The last birthday card for Zannie." She expressed that "thank you" was not enough for the love her grandmother poured into her life.

But she hoped wherever Suzanne went, she would get to sing because she would miss her singing her favorite songs, watching her eat cake, and her soft touch. At the core of it all, Suzanne will be remembered for her love.

Her step-daughter Leslie Hamel also shared a long tribute to the actress; she wrote, "Thank you to everyone for the incredible outpouring of love and tender wishes. It's impossible to put into words how very much she meant to me."

Another important person to wish her a heavenly birthday was her husband of 46 years, Alan Hamel. The loss of his wife was heartbreaking, as he expressed how they did not spend an hour apart in the 42 years of they were married.

Saying goodbye to his wife meant accepting that he would not have anyone to hold hands with when he went to sleep or get the chance to stare at her "beautiful face" while she slept. But even as she rested, Alanl said, "We are one," and ended off his tribute with the words,

"I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU, MY BEAUTIFUL SUZANNE, FOR ALL OF ETERNITY."

According to reports, Suzanne died holding Alan's hand and all she wanted to do for her birthday was eat cake. "She was always happiest with a red velvet cupcake," said Hay.

Her children Bruce, his wife Caroline, and daughter Leslie arrived a day before her birthday, but Suzanne had reportedly started getting weaker. "She fought until her last breath, using every form of medicine." remarked her publicist. Although the fight was difficult, Suzanne died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
