The story of Lil Mabu's parents is one that mainly speaks of his dad, New York businessman Peter DeLuca. Little is known about the rapper's mother, but in addition to devastating loss, his dad's ex-wife sued him for allegedly conspiring to hide his assets amid their divorce.

On November 12, 1987, news broke of a Manhattan building in Greenwich Village collapsing and trapping residents. The five-story apartment complex, which, at the time, was undergoing renovations, belonged to Lil Mabu's father, Peter DeLuca.

Among the trapped residents were the businessman's wife, Jane Deluca, and their 13-month-old baby, Peter DeLuca Jr. Jane and Peter Jr. remained for hours under the rubble as fire and emergency responders worked carefully and efficiently to pull them out.

Unfortunately, Peter Jr. never survived his injuries. His mother was also declared dead when she reached the hospital, and although she was resuscitated, Jane's recovery was a long and painful process. Her ex-husband had just entered the building when it began to collapse, but he managed to dig his way out.

Authorities later discovered that the renovations the building was undergoing were being done without a permit or approved plans. The construction workers had dug near its foundation, compromising its structural integrity and causing its demise.

Lil Mabu's Parents: His Father Is a Well-Known Figure in Funeral Business

Peter became a Licensed Funeral Director in New York State in 1971. Among the first enterprises established under his name was Crestwood Cremation and Funeral Services, which opened in January 1985 and still runs today.

The same can be said for Greenwich Village Funeral Home Inc., where Peter has been CEO since June 1985. That December, he launched Peter DeLuca Properties, a development and property management firm he ran until 2014.

In June 1996, Peter became the president of the Beth Abraham Memorial Chapel, which also closed its doors in 2014. He has another funeral home, Peter C. DeLuca Funeral Home, which offers various services, including cremation and international funeral shipping, but it doesn't appear in his online resume.

Peter Deluca Accused of Conspiring with Questionable Figures

Peter and Jane married in 1978 and divorced in 1998. Peter had filed to dissolute their marriage in 1996, and Jane claimed she was forced to accept a $1 million settlement and their house while Peter retained the remaining $10 million.

In 2006, she filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, accusing him of allegedly conspiring with convicted former judge Victor Barron and then-under-indictment judge Michael Garson to hide his assets, cheating her of millions.

Jane said she had discovered Peter's alleged betrayal in 2003 through her ex-father-in-law. However, upon examination of the court records, there was no documentation of Garson and Barron's official involvement in their divorce.
