Vernon Davis' Wife: He Never Married Though Was Previously Engaged

Although Vernon Davis hasn't married, the retired NFL star has been involved in long-term relationships, one of which seemingly ended with a public infidelity accusation. His last known romance also appears to have ended.

In August 2018, former star athlete Vernon Davis revealed the grand romantic gesture he planned to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla Sortor. He said the idea came to him in a dream. He chose Ocean City, Maryland, as his location and began planning.

He told Kayla Sortor they were attending an all-white event for one of his former teammates. She didn't know that her beau had booked four skydivers and a plane, which flew overhead as they walked on the beach.

One by one, each skydiver glided down toward her and Davis, removing their suits to reveal the words "Will," "You," "Marry," and "Me?" in that order. Once the message was complete, Davis got on one knee and asked for Sortor's hand in marriage.

Davis said he didn't know how Sortor would react. "I just expected her to be extremely surprised, and she was. She was happy. She just couldn't believe it," he shared. Sortor had agreed to be his wife.

Sortor's first qualification is an Associate's degree in Communications, which she attained from Anne Arundel Community College in 2011. Her second is a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Maryland College Park, and she graduated in 2014.

Finally, she has a master's in Organizational Communication from Bowie State University, received in 2017. Sortor began accumulating work experience in 2008, beginning as a Sales Representative for Champ Sports. In 2010, she served in the same role for Nike.

More roles came, and in 2017, she began volunteering as an Events Coordinator at the Vernon Davis Foundation For The Arts Inc. She left the non-profit in January 2020, and that August, she joined KBR, Inc., as a Senior Communications Specialist.

Vernon Davis and Kayla Sortor's Romance Has Gone Quiet

Davis and Sortor last appeared in public as a couple in March 2019 at the grand opening of Shaquille's at LA Live. Sortor still has a photo of herself and Davis on her Facebook page from 2017; however, there's no trace of her on his socials.

In a silly 2020 sketch with Rob Gronkowski and James Harrison, Davis announced he was retiring — NBA star Vince Carter also retired that year. Davis had interviews afterward, speaking about his transition to film and TV and spending time with his kids during quarantine.

In many, if not all, there was no mention of his love life or Sortor since they got engaged. Neither Sortor nor Davis ever spoke about their relationship after Davis' proposal. Hence, it remains to be known if they are still a couple or have gone separate ways.

Vernon Davis's Relationship with Janel Horne

Janel Horne is the mother of Davis's three children. She was present when the San Francisco 49ers drafted him in 2006; however, their relationship ended on a rather sour note. In a now-deleted 2016 Instagram post, Horne accused Davis of being unfaithful.

In the post's caption, she reportedly wrote that she had dedicated 15 years of her life and raised three children with him as she accused him of lying against her and cheating on her with a 20-year-old child.

Davis, a dedicated father, never confirmed nor denied the allegations, but he posted a message, seemingly in response. He wrote about holding hands and praying for people who did certain things.
