'Rocky' Star Carl Weathers Dies at Home – Heartbroken Family & Co-stars Speak Out

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Carl Weathers, the celebrated actor best known as Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" series, who has passed away. His co-stars and family are united in grief.

Carl Weathers, renowned for his iconic role as Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" series, passed away at 76. Matt Luber, his manager, confirmed that he "died peacefully at home" on Thursday, February 1.

The actor's family released a statement celebrating his life and legacy, highlighting his significant impact on the movie and sports industries. "Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life," they said.

Survived by his ex-wife, Mary Ann, and their two sons, his family expressed their genuine grief in their heartfelt tribute. "He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend," they stated.

His journey to stardom began after he gave up football for a Hollywood career in the mid-1970s and appeared with Sylvester Stallone on screens. In 1987, Carl Weathers showcased his versatility as an actor in the sci-fi action movie "Predator," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

As a talented actor, he displayed his comedic skills in 1996's "Happy Gilmore" alongside Adam Sandler. He also directed several TV series, including "Law & Order," "Chicago Med," and "Hawaii Five-O."

After Weathers' passing, Sylvester Stallone paid his co-star and friend a heartfelt tribute. With deep emotion, Stallone wrote, "We lost a legend yesterday. My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Weathers' co-star in "Predator," mourned him as a good friend and motivator, writing, "He was the type of friend who pushes you to be your best." Schwarzenegger penned, "I'll miss him, and my thoughts are with his family."

While reflecting on the loss of his "Happy Gilmore" co-star, Adam Sandler praised his character and fatherhood. He emphasized, "Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. [...] Loved his sons more than anything," Sandler noted, attesting to Weathers' role as a devoted father.
