A Man's Romantic Proposal Takes a Turn for the Worst until He Manages the Unexpected

Scott Clyne’s romantic sunset attempt to ask his girlfriend, Suzie Tucker, to marry him was captured and shared across social media platforms, with the surprising moment viewed over 9 million times on TikTok alone.

He had enlisted the help of friends to pull off the proposal. While Clyne and Tucker stood on the boat’s bow, their friends readied the “Will you marry me?” banner and the rose petals. Clyne had planned the proposal meticulously, choosing a romantic sunset boat ride as the setting.

"It’s how we first met. We met on a sandbar through mutual friends in Inglewood and it’s our passion to boat. So I figured that the perfect proposal would be to do it at sunset with our two best friends and get them involved," he explained.

This was not Clyne's first attempt at proposing; Hurricane Ian thwarted his initial plan during a trip to the Florida Keys.

Tucker and Clyne stood on the boat’s bow, recreating the iconic pose from “Titanic” as he had planned, but the next step in his proposal went awry. As he dropped to one knee, the ring box popped out of his pocket and fell into the sea.

"I went immediately in after it. It just happened so fast," Clyne recounted. His successful retrieval of the ring box was met with delight and surprise by everyone on board.

Despite the mishap, Clyne's proposal went ahead without further issues once he got back onto the boat. Tucker, focused on a "Will you marry me?" banner and unaware of the ring box falling, initially thought Clyne had fallen into the water.

"She said she was focused on the banner. By the time the ring fell out, she thought I had actually fallen over. She was laughing hysterically, but she didn’t even see the ring drop or anything," Clyne shared.

The consequences of his thwarted plants lasted well into the evening, as he had organized a surprise dinner to follow the proposal.

“I obviously didn’t plan to be swimming and I didn’t bring an extra pair of clothes, so I attended dinner soaking wet,” he said.

When Sara Ney went out to be one of the panel members of a rom-com session at the 2023 Book Bonanza event, little did she know that she would go from being a girlfriend to being a fiancée.

It was the second day of the event, and on the panel, Kim Jones, Lucy Score, Kristen Ashley, Melanie Moreland, and Trilina Pucci joined Sara, while Jiffy Kate was the moderator.

Sara is the author of the "How to Date a Douchebag" series. She has made her mark and is a USA Today Bestselling author. She is known for her adult romances and did not expect to be on the receiving end of such a romantic moment.

At the event, as the panel session was ending, one of the panel members said they had time for one final question. A member of the audience raised her hand and asked, "Do you all have, as I think we all do based on the level of hilarity on this panel, any funny first date experiences?"
