Kate Winslet and her 21-year-old son, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, shared tender moments on the red carpet this December, as they stepped out together for the premieres of "Goodbye June."

Their joint appearances marked not only a personal milestone for the mother-son duo but a major professional one as well. Winslet, best known for roles in "Titanic" and "The Holiday," has made her directorial debut with the Netflix drama, set to premiere on December 24, 2025.

The project, however, runs far deeper than a career move — it's a family affair. The script was penned by her son, who now goes by the artistic name Joe Anders, and draws from an intimate chapter in their lives.

"Goodbye June" is inspired by the emotional farewell the family shared following the death of Winslet's mother. Speaking recently on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the actress explained that she had initially been hesitant to direct the film.

But when the time came to choose who would bring the story to life, she shared that she couldn't let the project go, adding that she wanted her son to experience his story coming to life.

Anders is the son of Winslet and acclaimed director Sam Mendes, who split in 2010. Though the 21-year-old has largely stayed out of the spotlight, he isn't entirely new to the industry.

At 15, he made his acting debut in "1917," under his father's direction, and later appeared in "I Am Ruth" in 2022, sharing scenes with his mother and half-sister, Mia Threapleton.

Now, as he steps into the limelight with his first major writing credit, he's also filming "El Cabo del Miedo," a series set to premiere next year and featuring screen heavyweights Javier Bardem and Amy Adams.

As for "Goodbye June," at the London premiere of the film, Anders stood confidently beside his mother, drawing attention not just for his creative role in the project, but also for his striking appearance, which many netizens couldn't help but comment on.

"He looks like Leo 🫣👀," commented one person on social media, referring to Leonardo DiCaprio, Winslet's iconic "Titanic" co-star. "He does look like Leo! ❤️" shared another.

A third netizen typed, "I thought he looked liked a young Leonardo De Caprio [sic]." Another added, "He look like titanic version of leonardo dicaprio [sic]," echoing a comparison that has quickly gained traction.

Though the project is deeply personal and creatively ambitious, the sudden wave of attention surrounding Anders's resemblance to DiCaprio has introduced an unexpected dimension to the film's promotional trail.

Still, it's "Goodbye June" that stands at the centre of the moment — a film shaped by loss, memory, and the unique bond between a mother and son. And in that, both Winslet and Anders seem perfectly cast.

In another moment from the same school run, Winslet gently held her son's hand as they approached the kerb, with Mendes close behind. The little boy, dressed in denim shorts and a Rolling Stones tee, looked ahead with curiosity as his parents navigated the morning routine — a candid snapshot of family life just months before Winslet and Mendes's split.
