Janet Jackson praises her father Joe Jackson after he was reportedly hospitalized
Janet Jackson shared some sweet words about her father while she was on-stage to accept an award at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards amid his hospitalization.
The 52-year-old icon was honored with the Impact Award during the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California last Friday, and she made sure to take the time to honor her father during her acceptance speech.
Upon receiving her award, Janet thanked her fans, and acknowledged her mother Katherine Jackson, father Joe Jackson, and her siblings, for making her who she is today.
"My mother nourished me with the most extravagant love imaginable, my father, my incredible father, drove me to be the best I can. My siblings set an incredibly high standard, a high bar for artistic excellence…"
Last Friday, Entertainment Tonight Online revealed from a Jackson family source that Joe is currently confined at a Las Vegas hospital due to a terminal cancer. According to the source, the 89-year-old father of Michael Jackson has been battling the cancer for quite a while, and he has been given limited time to live due to the cancer being untreatable.
This is not the first critical hospitalization of Jackson, who also suffered a stroke nearly three years ago during his 87th birthday.
Earlier this year, Janet broke her nine-year-long hiatus from performing on live television during the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, where she was honored with the prestigious ICON Award.
Her fear of performing live on television dates back to 2004, when she performed for the Super Bowl halftime show with Justin Timberlake and suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfuction. Her performance with Justin Timberlake was viewed live by millions of people around the world, and she has been quoted to say it was "truly embarrassing" in numerous interviews. According to ABC News, Janet has also been stressing the fact that what had happened was an accident. After her performance, she did not take the stage again until four years later, and only appeared on live television again this year.
During her acceptance speech, she spoke about the difficulty of always being under the spotlight, and the importance of focusing on her faith during her troublesome times.
"Our public discourse is loud and harsh. My prayer is that weary of such noise, we will turn back to the source of all calmness, that source is God. Everything we lack, God has in abundance: compassion, sensitivity, patience and boundless love. Again I want to thank all of you for this honor and I thank God for giving me the precious energy that lets me live my life as an artist who every day seeks to expand my capacity to love."
Now that the Janet is comfortable performing on live television again, fans could expect a lot more coming from the superstar. Her two awards show appearances are only the beginning, and Jackson is definitely ready to take the music industry by storm.
