It was officially announced that LeBron James would be joining the Lakers in the next NBA conference, confirming the rumors of his plans to leave his hometown Cleveland. Now that the move has been made official, he sparked mixed reactions after sporting Lakers jersey shorts in a new video.

The newly minted Lakers forward supported his future teammates while competing at the Las Vegas summer league this weekend, and the King showed off his team spirit while donning a pair of purple and gold shorts with "LAKERS" printed across the front.

While walking to his seat, James received a standing ovation from Lakers fans present at the arena. Before sitting down, he gave hugs to second-year Lakers guard Josh Hart, and a warm greeting to Brandon Ingram.

Due to the underwhelming performance of the Lakers in the past few seasons and after missing the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, the 33-year-old now becomes the focus of the entire Lakers franchise and is the possible foundation of a new NBA super team. This all depends on the ability of the management and LeBron to persuade more people to join in on the Lakers fun.

The franchise's president of basketball operations, Magic Johnson, called James the "best player in the world" in a recent interview regarding the NBA, sharing:

"He loves to compete and is an awesome leader who is about winning and making sure that his teammates are successful. The Lakers players are excited to have a teammate who has been to nine NBA Finals. It's a huge step closer to returning the Lakers to the playoffs and to the NBA Finals."

Now that LeBron James is ready to suit up for his new team, let's take a look at how he impacted the Cleveland Cavaliers during his last playing year with them, which just so happened to be one of his greatest NBA seasons yet, playing all the 82 regular-season games for the Cavs, with an average of 27.5 points per game, and hitting career-high averages of 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists. It was his heroic efforts that took his team to their fourth consecutive NBA finals, although ultimately fell short when the Golden State Warriors swept the championship series.

James will now be working hard to build proper rapport with his new team, to make sure they have a better shot at an NBA championship in the next couple of years. With James and the rest of the Lakers have their eyes on the prize, the Golden State Warriors need to step up their game and work harder to defend their title now that we might be looking at an LA Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors western conference championship series.

For now, welcome to Los Angeles, LeBron!
