The “Black-ish” actress knows how to turn heads and steal the spotlight with her fashion choices, and she did it again at the Rodarte’s Fall 2019 fashion show, held at The Huntington Library in Los Angeles, on Tuesday.

Kicking off the Fashion Week on the west coast, Ross looked flawless in a ruffled purple gown with sheer panels and purple bow boots from Rodarte’s Spring 2019 collection. The star accentuated her facial features with a bold red lip and added even more purple to her eyes to match the outfit.

“PURPLE LACY RUFFLES ON RUFFLES ~ @rodarte makeup by @lisastoreymakeup hair by moi,” Tracee captioned an Instagram post which features three different pics of her rocking the dress and showing it off in all its glory.

Over the past years, Tracee has earned a place in Hollywood’s best-dressed lists, always shocking with her assertive, and sometimes daring, outfit choices.

A former fashion editor and model, Tracee inherited her love for fashion from her mother, the iconic Diana Ross. Since she was little, Ross was inspired by her mom’s style, and even to this day, she says one of her favorite activities is to delve into Diana’s closet to seek some vintage clothes.

“It’s like going to a museum,” Ross told InStyle. “I’ll sound like a crazy person, but when I hold some of her extraordinary original beaded stage clothes, there is a particular Diana Ross smell, a mom smell, a certain perfume that I just love.”

Growing up surrounded by high-end fashion brands and her mother’s expensive, sparkly outfits, Tracee was able to translate what fashion really meant to her years later. She explained:

“As a kid I saw my mom as the lady in the sparkly dress on the stage who sang, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found the language to articulate that what I was seeing, was a woman in her full glory being in connection with this gift she was given, being glamorous and sexy but not in a way that’s ‘Look at me.’”

And added:

“I was raised to view sexy as being at the height of your ... self. Clothing was one of the ways you could wear your inside on your outside.”

Speaking to People magazine for their Best Dressed Stars of 2018 issue, Ross stated that the only rule she follows in fashion is to “Always feel free to express your own personal style.”

Tracee’s style covers a wide range. She can rock a pantsuit and animal prints with the same glamour she can pull off a Valentino dress at some award shows. For the star, getting ready for the red carpet is just as fun as the rest of the event. And the process of picking her outfits is unique too.

“First, I have to make sure it photographs well because hanger appeal doesn’t always translate in real life,” she explains. “And vice versa, something that looks not so special on the hanger can really come to life in an amazing way on the body! Color is also important. And it has to make me feel like a badass when I put it on.”

In the end, Tracee credits her incredible style to her confidence and the fact that she’s not afraid about other people’s opinions. As long as she feels good in whatever she wears, the world will get the same message.
