Gabby Union's Daughter Swims with Head Underwater in Video Set to Funny Voice-Over
There’s no stopping Kaavia! Besides being an Instagram sensation, the eight-month-old daughter of Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade is also quite the swimmer, and a video on social media has us all impressed.
Being the child of a superstar actress and an award-winning retired athlete may come with some pressure to measure up, but Kaavia James Union Wade is letting us know she’s up to the task.
In a recent video posted to Instagram by Wade, Kaavia dives into a pool without hesitation at the prompting of her instructor. She propels herself forward impressively while holding on to small flotation devices and all this while, the clip is set to a mock commentary voice-over.
The adorable tot made her red carpet debut about two weeks ago at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards
“First, she won the 400 meters individual medley, and set a fantastic new world record,” the commentary ran.
With over two million views already, the video was an instant hit. Tons of social media users trooped to the comment section with varied remarks. While most couldn’t help commending Kaavia’s achievements, others admitted that they were scared for her safety.
To put some of those fears to rest, a June 2012 Live Science article explained that babies are born with a reflex called the bradycardic response.
Basically, what that does is allow them to automatically hold their breath while underwater, keeping babies “alive much longer than adults would survive underwater.”
In any case, all those swimming skills will come in handy for Kaavia, whose parents love a good vacation and even have an annual Wade World Tour that usually includes yachts, boats, and water.
The adorable tot made her red carpet debut about two weeks ago at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards with Union, 46, and Wade, 37, in tow.
Speaking with reporters about how it felt to walk the carpet with their daughter, who they welcomed via surrogate in November, Wade said:
“It’s amazing. Obviously our story is very documented and we were waiting on her arrival for a long time. …It’s a lot for her but she will look back at these moments and appreciate them when she comes back again and she’s walking.”
Before then, Kaavia stays busy serving us some of the most adorable mean mug shots in history, like that time she slayed in a colorful African print and matching headband while dishing a look that reminds us all of our favorite aunties.
